2002 Black VW Jetta needs some tough love

I've been neglecting my black Jetta. It's got swirls and spiderwebs, a scratch or two, and a new paint chip I just noticed. I have a PC and the Jetta's a hard clearcoat from what I hear. Here's what I was thinking of ordering to get it back in decent shape.

SSR3
SSR2.5
used with
3.5"" Purple Foam Wool (PFW)
4" CCS Spot Buffs Yellow Cutting
4" CCS Spot Buffs Orange Light Cutting

SSR1
Black Hole
used with
4" or 6" polishing or finishing pads

3.5" backing plate (got the 6" one)
DMTs

SSR3 and PFW are debatable with a PC, but I have seen a thread or two saying they'll work well. The PFW is only $5 so I thought I'd get it just in case.

Would Pro Polish be a better substitute for any of the polishes?
Is it correct that I won't need a cleaner after SSR1 and Black Hole? If that's wrong, what should I get?
4" or 6" for the polishing and finishing pads.

I was thinking Spray N Wipe, UPGP, and OID for upkeep since I'm a lazy apartment dweller.

Any suggestions are welcome.
 
Be careful with the SSR3. It's liquid sandpaper. Especially with a 4" pad. Start with the least aggressive and move your way up until you achieve the correction that you are looking for. I don't know how hard the clear is on your Jetta, but SSR2.5 on an orange 4" pad will correct quite a bit of defects. Follow it up with SSR1 on a white pad to clean up the finish left by the 2.5.

I wouldn't substitute the Pro Polish for the SSRs, but it is good to have for a lot of jobs on the car. It is more of a chemical polish, versus an abrasive polish and is very pad dependant.

You will not need a cleaner. The Black Hole is a good product, but I would not use it if you want to use UPGP. You will get better bonding with the UPGP on clean paint, or if you really want to use a glaze, DWG is an acrylic glaze that UPGP will bond well to. The magic number with UPGP seems to be 3 coats. Just make sure that you let them cure 12-24 hours before putting on another coat. If you want to use the Black Hole, I would use a wax over it instead of a sealant.

Spray & Wipe is a great product for when the car is a little too dirty for a QD. OID is a good QD, but I like PB's Spray & Gloss as well.

I would highly recommend that you clay the car first. Also, what color is the car? If you could post some pics of the car (showing the condition of the paint, swirls, etc.), we could give you better suggestions.
 
Thanks for the advice. The car is black. I'll try to get some pics up. I still has a good reflection, but in the light, there's heavy webbing.

Thanks for pointing out the glaze/sealant thing. I threw Black Hole in there at the last second, figuring I wasn't going to get everything perfect and could use a little swirl hiding. I'll probably drop that as the WOWA products like UPGP will make it easier to keep it protected. I've done layers and layers before and I just don't seem to have time for it anymore.

First ..:welcome: to DC
Second ..as others have said SSR3 is very aggressive and for the most part should be used with a rotary. The SSR2.5 with an orange pad should be enough especially with the 4" pads ...I prefer larger pads..do as many passes as needed to get the finish as you want it, then do a pass or two with SSR1 and a finishing pad.
A quick pass with Black Hole on very low speed, topped with Natty's blue and you'll be set for months to come ...:bigups
Maintain with Spray and Wipe and some QD+ and we'll talk before winter ;)
Some DMT's and you are complete :)
