$200 starter kit

Hello guys,

I`m planning a trip to NY soon and it`ll be my opportunity to get a starter`s detailing kit (I have absolutely nothing where I live, and it`s too expensive). So, what would you guys get with $200? Including the 7424xp, pads, waxes etc...
Please help, I won`t be able to restock my kit until next year or maybe later.
BTW my car is metallic dark gray, if it helps.

Thanks in advance

On a budget I would use 1 pad and the optimum spray polishes. You can hose them out and spin them dry and spray the pad with polish, itll work as intended.

Then onr, opti-seal and drying towels. Clay towel as well. A little of optimum`s stuff goes further then any other product line I think.

I am sure you mean 1 level of pad but several of that pad, because 1 pad will never be able to survive an entire vehicle with any kind of positive result..
I also have had great results with Optimum Hyper-Polish but had to get it out of that nutty spray bottle and it was much easier to use...
Their other products are really nice but not all that inexpensive..

Their coatings are really great, and have been around the longest - around 10 years I think - and have steady, no problems, etc., history behind them..

Opti-Seal. One bottle can do around 40 vehicles.

optiseal is good
for a good polish (1 step) I`d say Poorboy`s Polish w/sealant (can cut pretty good with an aggressive pad but loses some of the sealant the longer you work it I believe)

3 pack of DMTs is a good choice for 3 high quality towels (I love mine more than ANY of my cobra towels, and I have them all- sorry PBMG) - you don`t want to have to battle with the polish or lsp and cause scratches

edit- bad timing btw you just missed a 25% off sale (that would have gotten you a lot more loot!)

What kind of sorcery is this opti-seal??? It`s been a while since I last visited autopia, but this is just plain mad... One product that makes everything look great (glass, body...) with a quick spray (on wet surfaces no less) and then just wipe off with a towel??
Well, let`s see the list so far:

Opti-seal $32
3 pack of DMT towels $21
P&C 7424xp $120
Optimum No Rinse $16
Poorboy World Polish with sealant $18
Clay sponge? Clay towel? I haven`t found a suitable one yet.. And it`s already $207 BEFORE tax. No problem at all, just pointing it out.

Which all-around pad do you guys recommend so I can buy lots of it? And also, should I use opti-seal with the polisher? My car is full of light scratches and some swirls, can I remove them with the above products alone?

I can`t thank you guys enough, you`re being extremely helpful. Hopefully I`ll be able to post some pictures soon.

Where are you from? Where are you going to in NY and when will you be there?
You will need a backing plate with the 7424 as it does not come with one ..

There is no one size fits all pad, but if I could only have one type it would be Meguires Microfiber Pads. Buy the cut and polish pads. Works great on the PC (got to buy a backing plate as stated). Meguires sells polish made for the microfiber pads. Non diminishing polishes work best. The pads hold up better than foam (for me) and clean easier.

Hi, I`m from Brazil (yeah... the land of Zika, corruption and olympic games).
I`m going to Manhattan, New Jersey, Boston and back to Manhattan for 4 days. Just a quick trip.
Good reminder on the backing plate!! Thanks!

So are you bringing this back with you when you return home?

No I mean one pad, one white, one orange.

With the pad washer and hyper polishes pros use 1 pad for a whole car.

One pad on a whole car? Wow. Mine get too hot and I`m too lazy to wash one pad. I would love to see a video of that in action.

This is what it looks like so far... over $250 before tax. It doesn`t mean I`ll buy everything off of Amazon, it`s just easier to create a wish list and check prices:

Any adjustments? Thanks again!

ps.: Oh I changed the opti-seal for the Collinite 845 just because it`s so much cheaper, but if you guys tell me it`s not worth it I`ll replace it again.

Following up, here it is, in all its glory, the $200(ish) starter kit:

Collinite 845 is essentially the only LSP I have used for the last several years. And when I do polish, those two waxes are what I use. Very good stuff you got there.

JP, I`d just like to say that it`s good to see you back in our area code. I`ve always enjoyed your perspective.
