2 question about pads for rotary

hi fellows i just added a makita 9227 to my tools and have been doing some reading on pads for this and it seems that a lot of you still use 6" pads even so you can go larger on this machine.

Is there a reason for this or just personal preference. i really looking forward to the 7.5 and maybe 8.5 to take advantage of the bigger size and the faster speed of getting the job done quicker, but again any help or reason not to use this will be greatly appreciated.

Btw i have a pc and i try (only the fit) the das pads on the backing plate that came with the machine and they fit perfectly, once againg thx in adv.

I use 4", 6" and 8" pads on the rotary. I match the pad to the area being polished.

The larger pads cover more area but are harder to control.

The smaller pads can get into tighter places and are also easier to control.

There are no rules, use what size you like :idea

Smaller pads are also more maneuverable than the larger pads.

I use the 8" pads for the large, flat surfaces and the smaller pads for fenders, bumpers, etc.

so is clear that is more preference and the need of the specific job. ths for clearing this up for me.

Remember this...

With a PC, a smaller pad is "more aggressive"

With a rotary, a larger pad is "more aggressive"

I use 4, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7 and 8.5 inch

Roof and hood are usually 7 to 8 inch but the rest are mostly 4 inch and 6 inch.

Safer, I find the little pads very good for top of doors where only hand polishing has been possible in the past.

Strong 8.5 inch foams can get rather funny at times and want to go the opposite direction to me.

This is true, and a lot of people dont understand why either.

On a rotary, the larger pad's edges are moving much faster, so it has more cut, and is also more likely to burn paint.

For rotary polishing I would say either LC 7.5" curved edge pads or edge2000 6" wave pads.
