1Z Metalic Polish Questions

Per the "favorite ligh polish with fillers" thread, I'm going to order some 1Z MP to try.

With this polish stain plastic trim? I assume it works equally well with a rotary or DA? Finally, using the Mequairs scale, what is estimate abrasiveness? Where is the best place to order (pakshak)?

I've used this by hand with excellent results. It's got more of a chemical smell, very light abrasives, and leaves a little bit of carnauba on the paint. If Ranney sells it, get it.

What a coincidence – I just used 1Z PP and MP on a new Jag. 1Z MP is fantastic . . . great for use with rotary, PC, or hand. No, MP does not stain trim. Regarding abrasiveness, I’m not familiar with the Meg’s scale, but it does have *light* abrasive/chemical cleansing properties. Much like 1Z’s PP, MP leaves a very glossy finish. Good luck :)

PS: I use MP PRO. I’m told there’s an apparent difference between the consumer/pro lines.

I would compare 1Z MP to Meg's #80 on the abrasiveness scale.

I dunno...I'd say MP is less aggressive than the initial bite of #80. Note that ebpcivicsi had to use MP on some very soft paint because his #80 micromarred it.

Sheesh, :o I haven't seen you post here in a while and here I go disagreeing with you!

It's cool, we don't always have to agree with each other, do we? LOL

I can see your point. When dealing with very soft paint, I could certainly see #80 having a little edge over MP, but *for me*, I know that I can finish with either product and come out the same, but again, that's for me.

Forgive me, but I'm having a bit of a love affair with 1Z polishes recently, because they've gotten me out of a bit of trouble on a few recent jobs, and the results are stunning! :getdown

1Z MP abrasive level differs depending on 'consumer' or 'pro' tin.

I believe MP Pro is about a 3, and MP consumer about 2.

Accumulator is the resident boffin on MP ( :D ) and can clarify this if I'm wrong.

It's a shame that DavidB had a parting of ways with 1Z as this was a popular product on his store.

I plan to get more 1Z products in the future for my business. Although I love MPP, 1Z (with fillers) and Menzerna (no fillers) are my favourite polishes. (Megs are good too - #80 my fave Megs polish) Oh! Those Germans!!!!!!!!

Works great by hand or machine. Compared to many polishes/compounds, 1Z products do not stain trim - very easy to use

JDookie- Heh heh, it'd be one scary world if everyone agreed with *me* all the time

I've only had *one* time that #80 was too harsh and that was a weird repaint. And yeah, they both polish out about the same on normal paint. Just wanted to mention the initial cut of #80 in case somebody is dealing with one of those weird situations.

Alfisti- Heh heh, "boffin" is a word we yanks seldom encounter. Good thing I watched all those old Brit movies ;)

Yeah, your take of Pro/consumer being 3/2 is right, though 3 might be stretching it just a little depending on the paint (if you want to split hairs). I really like the Pro MP and bought up a bunch of it when it got discontinued. I dunno if you can still find it anywhere these days. If/when I run out I'll probably go with Menzerna (plus a glaze as needed) and/or Meguiar's (accepting that it'll be glaze-like). Or I'll just use the consumer MP but products like UPP don't bond all that well to it and I can't discern it having *any* cut on Audi clear. Keying this in, I'm struck by how functionally similar all these different approaches really are ;)

Get it while you can folks. When I talked with the guys at 1Z they said it *had* been discontinued along with some of their other, similar products.

Oh no! :soscared: Specifically, which other products?

Knockwurst- I can't remember for sure and I don't see the 3x5 with my notes on it...probably threw it away :o But IIRC they discontinued the Pro MP, the WaxPolishSoft, and the Express. All sorta-similar products in my opinion.

Having been less than impressed with their rep "Mike" who used to post here, I went to their website, got their US customer service number (out in CA) and called them up. A very helpful and friendly guy took plenty of time to discuss things with me. You might give 'em a call if you need some concrete info.
