1st try

I finally decided to do my own detailing/washing/waxing etc.

Results looks pretty good, considering this car has only seen drive-thru car washes and only one polish/wax session in four years. :nono

Anyways, here's one pic and I've posted a few others in the gallery.

This is what I did:

Clean/vaccum interior.

Engine degreasing.

Dawn wash > Mothers Clay > Dawn wash >Mothers Reflections Polish > Mothers Glaze and Sealant > Mothers Paste Wax.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Looks darn nice. But tell the truth. How dirty was that engine bay before the detail? And what product you used? (Please tell me you just posted a pic of a new-car sales brochure! :) )

For the engine bay this is what I did:

1. Cover sensitive parts with plastic bags

2. Hose everything down - no pressure washer - just nozzle and hose

3. I used Toyota's Engine Degreaser - went through about 1/2 the can - let it soak in for 15 minutes

4. Hose everything down again

5. Shop towels and Simple Green

6. Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax on paint surfaces

7. Mothers Preserves on plastic/hoses.

Took about 1 hour to complete, excluding the 15 minute soak in time.

:bounce

Looks great! The engine bay looks very nice too. :xyxthumbs

The only part you may want to rethink is applying Sealer & Glaze over top of the Reflections though. I'm not sure you would have any of the Refections left on there after the glaze. I believe you have to pick either or, but not both....

MaxTO, you might want to PM Forrest and be sure he checks this thread and gives us an opinion.

Yep, as 4DSC said, using Reflections and then Sealer and Glaze is duplicating effort. SG removed the Reflections.

So, next time skip the Reflections or S & G - take your pick.

Also, make sure the wax you're using is our Natural Formula(no cleaners) instead of Original Formula (with cleaners).

If you use the Original version, the cleaners in it will remove the SG or Reflections you have on the paint.

Nice work, BTW.

Not to knock Mothers any, since I think they make good stuff, but the names of those products are a bit confusing. Sealer & Glaze is just a glaze, like 3M IHG and Meguiar's #7. You usually use this after polishing, but before waxing to fill in minor minor imperfections and give the paint extra "pop". Reflections isn't a polish at all (at least, in my opinion) and should be considered a cleaner wax, kind of like their Original Formula wax.
