hello everyone, i just recently came to this site, i've learned alot, actually i think i've been overloaded.. i decided to by the porter cable and i am now wondering on products.. i have a 2001 black chevy with good paint but lots of micro marring , light cobwebbs and swirls ( hey, i didnt know how to wash properly until now) i had it buffed out last year by a body shop that used a rotary, for 200.00 .. i live in mn where now its salt and snow, it is a daily driver, is parked inside at night ,i've always waxed by hand with meqs deep crystal system but now that i have a black truck i see thats not going to work ( hence the pc) i'd like to stick with meqs because of ease to get and price but i'm open to similar priced products, i applied scratch X 3 times with alot of elbow grease with little improvement.... i used nxt a few weeks ago and was happy with the results but knew it was just a cover up. also it didnt seem very deep like when i used the deep crystal , it almost looked more reflective shiny instead of deep shiny. so heres what i was thinking:

meqs # 83

meqs # 80 speed glaze

then i dont know what, i want a deep wet look , and have always used carnuba waxes but have read here that in the hot sun( this summer) it melts down within a few weeks,

so, which poly sealants are good, i dont want to use nxt after # 80 because it has a cleaner in it.. do all polys have cleaners in them so you cant layer?

again i want a deep , wet look with a sealant that will hold up longer than 1 month in the hot sun, thank you...todd

p.s. please dont use abbreviations for products , i'm not sure half the time what product you people are talking about!! ( like s100 for example, no idea????)

Welcome!

as for the abbreviations theres a guide here:

FYI: s100 actually isn't even an abreviation, that's its actual name, lol!

Don't limit yourself to just meguiars! I personally cannot recommend any meguiars sealants (besides NXT) b/c I haven't used them.

However for long lasting protection go with Zaino or Klasse Twins (AIO/SG), these will both provide a somewaht wet clear shiney look as well, but not much depth.

There's countless other combos you can use for your finish, but for ultimate depth on black I have found VM, EX, Natty's to be great.

Good luck!

The combos you could use are LIMITLESS. Megs combos alone are dizzying, so I understand your headache.

Today I have Klasse AIO/SG topped with P21S (check the acronyms on the previous thread) on red paint. LOVE IT.

As long as you're doing the #83/#80 combo on your car really any LSP will do you fine, just have fun with it.

Don't forget to clay!!!

Cheers....

i wont have to clay if i'm using a cutting pad with # 83 will i ? i've already used scratch X

claying is good in case you have any surface contaminents. you *could* just go from washing to polishing, but there is the possibility of marring the surface with any contaminents on the paint.

as for what to use after polishing, Poorboy's EX w/carnauba might give you the deep, wet look you are looking for. check out this post for an example of EX w/carnauba on a black truck. it's scottwax's reply about 6 replies down. there are other sealants out there that mimic the carnauba look, i think Wolfgang or Blackfire are a couple. and two coats of sealant would be good, just remember to wait 24 hours between coats.

good luck and have fun! :wavey
