850 was all he was trying to get out of it. He wanted to keep it as a daily driver and have some functionality to go along with his toy. 850 is the entry level for any real recognition in the Supra community. I can't remember the site name, but there is some sort of registry for high HP supras. This guy has had thousand horsepower cars before, but this is where he wanted to take this one.
He sold it a couple years ago when he found out about his cancer. Priorities change when you get that kind of news I guess. Anyway, after the cancer went into remission and things changed financially, he had the opportunity to buy it back from the guy he sold it to. It had spent much of the last twelve months sitting in a field. A family of mice had actually taken up residence in the exhaust pipe. lol Of course it is a 3" pipe, so it doesn't surprise me. Anyway, it was really messed up. Swirled all to hell and massive overspray all over the place from shoddy paint shop work. It actually took about 12 hours total to get everything back in shape from the time he first brought it to me last year. His event last night was the first one since he got it back and had it all put back together again. He put a smaller turbo in it so it was more streetable and less likely to overboost and blow something up. He also had to replace the transmission with another racing tranny. It had one when he sold it, but I guess the guy he sold it to tore it up and put something else in that wasn't capable of the power the motor produced. He still has a couple things to replace on it like the rotors and things like that, but it is mostly done for what had to be changed out right away. Right now he is putting together another fuse panel to wire all his auxillary meters and gauges to so that they aren't all vampired in like they are now. That is why the hood popper is sticking out in that one picture. He has that area sort of taken apart.
The automatic is actually a better car if you are driving straight track runs, which is what he does in this. This thing shifts so smoothly that you wouldn't believe it. He isn't a noob when it comes to racing and modifying cars, and his opinion is that an automatic is the best application for his purposes. I'm more of a manual guy myself, but I guess if the auto does what it is supposed to do, then more power to it.
Here is the motor from last year. I polished the paint inside the engine bay and got all the oxidation and overspray taken off. It is much shinier now.

This is before he changed the turbo and a few other things in there too.
