1992 Porsche detail

wifehatescar

My L5-S1 is killing me!
So here is Paul's car that I detailed today.
Not too bad of shape with just the normal swirls, the paint that came off the car was crazy though (single stage)

wash & clay
Optimum Polish on rotary with white pad
FPII on rotary on black pad
Souveran paste

Not too many steps but took 5 hours :eek

1st pic is a before, the rest are afters (I hope that goes without saying :lol )

Looks great man! Car came out nice. I really need a rotary, some pads for the rotary, and seriously thinking about giving the menzerna line a go. How would go rate Menzerna IP compared to SSR2.5 and Menzerna FPII to SSR1? Would really like to know some thoughts on the comparison of the two.

On the rotary 2.5 is similar to IP and 1 is similar to FPII...I like Menzerna on rotary and SSR's on the PC, JMO. Menzera should not be used in the hot sun though.

The Optimum is a bit easier to use than IP but it is also a bit less aggressive. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being real abrasive, I'd say IP is a 5, OP is a 4 and FPII is a 2.This car was tough though because oxidized SS paint will gum up the rotary no matter what product is used. Persoanlly, I'd reccommend OP and FPII with some polishing and finishing pads if you are just starting out. I find cutting pads are not needed on the rotary.

PS this was my hand after the detail (red!), clothes were red, pads are permanently red.
I have done SS paint before but for the ok condition the car was in, it shed paint tlike crazy and made the rotary work quite challenging (pad hop) :doh

Sounds great. Really need to order some of those products because some of the swirl marks and scratches I have came accross so far the PC hasn't been able to do what I hoped. I will still be getting a more aggressive pad for the PC and give the SSR2.5 another shot but I am starting to think that the SSR's aren't for really bad cars. Maybe the SSR line with the rotary would do better but I hear said on here alot that people prefer Menzerna/Optimum via Rotary and SSR > PC. Don't get me wrong, the PC will always be in my aresenal but just for the SSR line and paint that isn't in too bad of shape. It might be me as well. Will give it much much more practice though. Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. By the way, which pads do you prefer with the rotary? LC, Edge etc. etc.?

That statement should read the PC is not for real bad cars IMO...Any product will be more aggressive on rotary than PC. SSR's are just as good as anything else, just your opinion as to which products you prefer. I find the SSR's dry quick on the rotary which for me is not a good thing.

I have been liking 7.5 LC for the rotary and Edge 6" quick connect for the PC.

That is my hand dyed red from the paint, it is not hurt or anything :D :lmfao

Also, in case anyone cares I have been finding FPII finishes nicer than the OP. On my car this week OP on a finish pad at 1000rpm left a SMALL amount of 1/2 circle buffer swirls in some areas.

Ya.. lol. That's what I actually meant but came out wrong.

Steve,
Thanks again for the nice job on my car. I am very pleased with how it came out. Let me know if you ever need any references.
