1984 Ferrari 512BB Detail

I have no real good BEFORE pics of this Ferrari as it was really overcast.

Likewise it was rather cloudy when I took the AFTER pictures:(

Paint was in bad shape....well it has been repainted twice, in various areas and the repaint is nothin to write home about either.

Had some wet sanding to do on some areas, wool cutting pad with Hi-Temps Extreme Cut followed the wet sanding and then over the rest of the car as well.

Next came an LC orange power pad with Hi-Temps magnum 357. This is an amazing leveler as it removed remaining sanding marks and the slight swirls left from the wool pad.

LC polishing pad and Menzerna IP was used next and this step really brought the paint to life

Last rotary step was LC finishing pad and FP.

I hit a few areas with the Cyclo and FP and followed by AIO by hand.

I am posting up only the AFTER shots as it was so overcast you can't see all the scratches and swirls

I used my new Optimum QD to "seal" portions of the paint on this Ferrari. On other parts of the car I applied FMJ.

I spoke with the maker of the Optimum today and he told me that the Optimum is an emulsion "non-solvent" formula which can be used as a stand alone topper.

It can be layered even:xyxthumbs And claims to last in the 3 to 5 month range. I have not had it long enough to test that claim but it is a wonderful QD/sealer which has replaced all of my other QD's. I found that it works great with FMJ also.

Thanks,

Anthony

Put a new file into the HTML file and name it like anthony or something. then when you link to them the url will look like: http://ubrf.ddetail.com/anthony/mypic.jpg

EDIT: it is a ftp server, so you wil either need a ftp program and log into ftp.ubrf.ddetail.com, or try clicking here if you are on win xp ftp://ubrf.ddetail.com

Great job Anthony!

I hope you can get space on a server somewhere as I know the extra detail from larger pics would be awesome.

Looks great!

I'm interested to hear about Optimum :)

You can try www.photobucket.com for the pics. I use them and they work pretty great (free too :D ).

I tried the photobucket first and screwed up the registration part and then couldn't get back in to change it:doh

The Optimum.....(Hmmm, lets abbreviate this one as "OP"?) is an awesome QD and if I can I'll send some out to a few of you guys to try out as the maker is sending me more plus a few other products to test out for them. A paint polish, interior dressing and a tire dressing.

I'll keep you in mind when it comes in:)

Great insight into your process and product selection, Anthony! That side shot is incredible!

How did you decide which areas to use Optimum on and which to use FMJ?

Hey Scott,

Thanks:)

I basically did a half and half......I believe the driver side was Optimum and passenger FMJ.

The thing I first noticed was the slickness difference between the two. It was not great but the FMJ was slightly slicker and gave perhaps more of a carnauba look to the paint but not a great difference in the looks department. I am interested to see how some of my regular washes look and finish out next week as I have been using the Optimum all week.

If you like I'll send a sample your way?

Here are two more pics

Anthony-the abreviation 'OP' means something else on most other boards. Something 'dirty'. To prevent confusion, you may need to think of another one.

No kiddin:nixweiss

OK....how about "OPT"?

We don't wish to drag Autopia down to the level of some other forums!

Thanks for the heads up,

Anthony

Detail looks great!

Saddens me when these nice cars have crap repaints. I looked at a testarossa a year or so ago that had runs in the friggin paint. RUNS! Was a fairly low mileage example that was otherwise in good shape...

YOY?

Anthony,

You're a miracle worker! What a great job.

I think you'll really like Optimum's tire dressing. It has no petroleum distillates (Dr. Ghodussi is strict about the VOC's), but still has great staying power. It spritzes out as a light gel, so it's easy to control. It also dries pretty quickly - no slinging. It's not on the market yet - he's testing it with us detailers. He dosen't get in a hurry about releasing something until he's perfectly satisfied. I think this formula's arrived, so hopefully it will be on the market soon.

How could a Testarossa owner accept that?

Honestly, I get upset when I see average cars and trucks with horrible repaints.

it's a shame these type of exotics don't get the proper paintjob. well, at least there is your great work to make it look great. :)

andriver & bjwebster - Thanks :)

alineal Thank you also for the kind words. Talking with David was great as he really enlightened me to some technical questions I had regarding the mixing of a polymer and carnauba.

I am looking forward to trying out some of his other stuff with great eagerness.

hirosh Thank you also for the compliment. Now that I am feeling a bit better I hope to get back to posting up more cars more often.:xyxthumbs
