Decided to detail my 16yr old John Deere Tractor; big mistake. i figured 1-2hrs....turned into 12-15hrs. Apparently 16yr old paint that has hit

- fences

- houses

- barns

- cows

- flipped twice

really doesn't want to be corrected. I'd say I did a 70% job based on Autopean standards. Not my best work, but okay I guess.

Cyclo with SIP, 1z High Gloss, Optimum Poli-Seal, Pinnacle Soverign wax

Pretty cool. Are you going to do a full recondition?

Nah, I'd have to strip everything off of it and chances are it'll hit another cow the road :scared:

If nothing else atleast I can say the single stage paint is almost brand new.

It's a rather hackish attitude to take, but the way I look at it, the paint is in pretty good shape now (nothing short of a repaint will fix the problems that are still there), and for maintenance it just needs it's air filter banged out once a year, an oil change, and a spark plug change. Then she's good to go again. For a 16yr old utility vehicle I can't ask fo rmuch more.

Yeah, I guess I should have guessed that it was SS paint --I didn't even really think about that one. I'm suprised that it put up such a fight though.

Man, I have to do the same thing to my LX175. Hood looks about as faded.

As the resident tractor detailer, yours looks better than any one i've done I reckon.

I know, I was surprised as well - I've never worked on SS paint before, but everything I've read on here indicated it should be an acceptable job.

Not so - to remove the oxidization and most of the damage, I had to go with 4 passes with my cyclo on each area with the SIP, with the first pass or two almost having to bog the machine down to a stop. It ~really~ wanted to resist all my attempts to make it shiney, lol!

:lol Are you going to keep us all wondering about the flipping part? Any interesting/entertaining stories?

Not really - I figured I could mow a really steep incline. Turns out I couldn't make it.

Then several months later I figured THIS time would be different for sure.

It wasn't. :nervous2:

LOL! Great detail! I've used Zaino and Collinite 845 before on my Craftsman! I've used Color-X on it also.

My mower is getting kinda nasty! I usually take my leftover car wash soap and wash my mower especially if I have a bunch left.
