'06 Chevy TrailBlazer SS detail

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hey all!!

I am pretty sure that this is the very first SUV I've ever posted pics on DC of!! Usually most SUV's leave the "sport" part of the utility vehicle back in the showroom somewhere...well...not this truck!! From the factory this SS comes equipped with a sport tuned suspension, big 4-wheel disc brakes, 20" rims and a big honkin' 6.0L LS2 V8!! This is the same motor that is standard issue in the C6 Vette albeit rated at 395hp instead of 400hp. This particular SS is a two wheel drive model (AWD is an option) and is very lightly optioned (read as light...for a truck). The owner is a good friend of mine and has a killer '02 Z06 that I recently detailed but was unable to get pics of as I lost sunlight by the time I was done. This time...my photos would not be denied!!! ;)

This truck is BRAND SPANKING NEW with a mere 76 miles on the odo. It was spared dealer jockey prep and marring was light to nonexistent. The paint was smooth and clean and did not need to be clayed.

Enjoy,
Mike

The detail...

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo.

Polish with Poorboy's PwC (white) using a Meg's 8006 pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Poorboy's EX-P using a Meg's 9006 pad and my PC set at 5.

Rims have Poorboy's Wheel Sealant and tires and wells have AA.

"TrailBlazer" badge was removed from the lower lefthand corner of the tailgate per client request. The badge was held on with 3M double stick tape and was removed with a hard plastic card and lots of Meg's #34 to be safe. Remaining adhesive residue was removed with Stoner's Tarminator.

Nice work!

I recently read in Car & Driver a camparison between this car and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The SS won.

That is one awesome looking ride!! Love the wheels. All the detail pictures have a good look to it. I really like the last picture!!
Nice Job!!

Ah, my favorite truck in the whole world!!

I'm actually looking to transplant the powertrain out of one of those into my truck ('02 GMC Envoy). Then I'd have the upscale luxury of the Envoy, and the beastly performance of the TBSS. Talk about a sleeper!

I've read alot on that thing, You are a lucky man to have got to detail one.. Tell us did you get to test drive it???

I hope they put the colorado ss concept into production. Same motor and wheels etc. as that TB ss. I'll be getting rid of my silverado for one of them bad boys.

Another great detail.

You have the ability to detail a car/truck that is 5 years old and one that is 5 days old, and both come out looking better than new!

Thanks for sharing!

p.s. The 5 series you did a month or so ago belongs in the 'Hall of Fame'.

Hey I just noticed something else. You said you took the "Trailblazer" lettering off the liftgate, but were you also the one to pull the gold overlay off the bowtie on the liftgate?

Can you do that?!! I have and 05 cavalier and the gold bowties drive me crazy...i was thinking about getting them painted black....same as the car.

THANK YOU all for the very kind words!!! :rockon

mgm2003 Wow...thanks man!!

Shiny Lil Detlr GOOD EYE dude!!! Actually I did not do that but rather the owner of the vehicle did. He said he did it before he even drove it off the lot and that it snapped into two pieces as he pulled it off. I guess it is some type of plastic overlay or something.

Very nice job. One observation - why are all the gauges black, except for one? Does that seem kind of odd to anyone besides me?? :)

Well, the tach is important. It looks kind of like an Autometer Tach. Maybe they decided to get some aftermarket OEM (oxymoron) action for some more street cred or something.

Yea I noticed that too. It looks kind of out of place but damn, everything else is awesome. Great work w/the detail!

I don't know about a cavalier's bowtie, all I know is that the one on the TB liftgates are just glued on hard plastic. Painting them shouldn't be a big deal, though. Just take it off, hit it with some 1500-grit wetsanding paper, clean it up well, and spray on the color. After it dries, spray it with clearcoat and let it sit a few days, then wetsand and compound it with some 2000 or 2500 grit wet paper.

Or of course you could just get a billet bowtie off ebay...

Great work, Mike!

Love everything about the truck sans the interior. I just wish GM spiced it up a bit. Irregardless, the truck looks great and you did a superb job of taking the finish to the next level.

It doesn't help that interior any that it's an LS and not an LT; the leather/suede seats look much nicer, IMO. Past that, I really can't complain about it -- but I'm also someone who is very much used to GM trucks and SUVs, so I feel at home an interior built like that.
