This is how you take a $28k (after mods) car and turn it into a $9k car over night. hah.
This is a write up of my old 2005 WRX that I figured I would show you guys. I tend to get a bit crazy with my daily drivers and decided that it was time to quit the "lowered" scene and start the "raised" scene haha.
You'll have to forgive me. I cannot list every exact piece of sand paper roughness or brand names I've purchased to complete this, But I have enough pictures that will explain the steps taken.
Items were purchased at your local Home Depot:
BEFORE:
1) prep car by taping windows and trim (of course) and remove front and rear tail lights. (ok..so we didn't remove the front tail lights...couldn't get them out haha) but we taped them.
2) Take electric square sander with some pretty medium tough paper attached and gave the whole car a whirl. After 80-90% of the clear was gone, we did a quick wetsand to make everything smooth and good to go for the primer.
BYE BYE RED PAINT!
WE STARTED LATE AS YOU CAN TELL..so....DAY 2!
1) Finish sanding the clear and start the wetsanding
2) After the wetsanding was dried and spray'd with air to clean excess dust. Time for the white primer!
we used about 2-3 coats of white primer from homedepot mind you
You'll notice the FD in the garage. Not its not primered. its just got one crappy paint job
3)All the white primer has been applied and its now time to spray on the FLAT BLACK ENAMEL (2-3 COATS) also bought from Home Depot
Gotta love them engines!
again, the fd isn't flat black, its actually gray. Just baked in the sun for a year from previous owner whom crashed it (fell asleep at the wheel) let it sit outside forever!
At last, the night has come. Blood, sweat, and beers have taken their toll and 24 hours later the rally monster has awakened.
Sorry these night shots dont do justice. But it came out great. Please view on...
THE NEXT DAY!?
You'll notice we did not take the side skirts off like we should have. When installing the mud flaps we needed to unhook the skirts anyways...which is why it still shows red underneath
And now for some off-roading return photos:
If your curious as to what those bars are where my fog lights should be.
Those are my PIAA mounts. Seen here:
Soo...$100.00 later. I get a finish that is Cheap. Yet clean..or at least was until i took it off roading.
This method of using a body shops paint sprayer instead of a off-the-shelf spray can lol is very VERY highly recommended and as you can tell pays off greatly. It may have taken 2 days but common....you gotta be a pro to get these results from a spray can.
Let the bashing begin. Questions, comments, concerns all greatly appreciated and wanted!
Cheers.
