    ONR w/ distilled water overkill?

I mix my ONR from a tap that goes through my water softener, so the water is softened (plus ONR naturally softens the water). However, the TDS in the water is roughly 650ppm.   Most times I wash i don't have spotting, but that's because i'm really moving quickly while drying. However...

Debating 2 issues (wetsanding and washing with a pressure washer)

I was debating these 2 issues on another board and wanted to see what autopia says 1) If you wetsand and polish an entire car (every panel), is it possible to do it without leaving ~any~ tracers behind I say no because of the sheer effort and fatigue involved - eventually you will miss...

    Bugs & insects

Here's a question I bet you'd never thought of (I know I hadn't, lol) - let's say you have a soft clear that's dirty. You gently ripe your hand (or a cloth, or whatever) against it.... insant marring. However, same situation, say a spider is walking across it. No micromarring. A bee lands...

    Convertible top care

Aside from washing it with ONR (because we all know ONR > * ), are there any particular tips and tricks to upkeeping its appearance? Any really great established products to use on it? I searched, but a lot of the references I pull up are from like 02/03. ..... just a tad bit old

    Happiest day in my life!

Just sold my black daily driver and am replacing it with a silver one. Muahahahaha, i finally won the battle with black!! :grinno: Btw, for an 04 mustang cobra, is the Ford emblem drilled into the trunk, or just adhesive'd on?

Isn't it unusual how Todd's click & brag threads used to get tens of thousands of views prior to banning, but now are down to 2-4000.........

    Milky clear-bra

A friend of mine is having a problem (havn't seen the car - it's an 04/05 volvo). It came with a clear-bra from the factory. The clear-bra is now looking milky in some areas (not yellow, but milky). It's garage kept and hasn't been washed with anything funny (other than normal non-autopean...

    Cleaning ONR microfibers with Palmolive?

After 2 or 3washes I usually soak my ONR microfibers with palmolive to remove all the trapped dirt. Works like a charm (after soaking them, they tend to release a surprising amout of dirt that I didn't think was there, btu is, and doesn't come out just rubbing under water). Soooo the...

How do people do this for a living?

In the last 9days I've done 10cars. Mine, my dad's, and I helped out a friend at her shop. I'm beat, lol. I'd rather light my Flex on fire than look at it right now. Don't get me wrong - detailing is totally fun and awesome, but car after car after car after car, and then thinking 'these...

    845 winter durability

Back in Sept I was curious how durable 845 would be, so I put 2 layers on everything. So after basically 7mths of not washing them, I found that for all the cars (z06/viper/65 cobra) that sat in the garge, the 845 was beading as if I'd just applied it a week ago. no sheeting anywhere, just...

Creating your own filtered water setup?

I have a CR Spotless DIC10 and it does work (spotless rinsing). However, because my water is so hard I kill the resin after 2 rinses (rinses, not washings). I've been contemplating making my own - in a nutshell, welding together an aluminum silo (say, 4ft tall, but that's workable) and...

Detailing a hummer (newer style) - black trim?

A friend of mine was telling me how when she details Hummers (newer style) it takes her hours to tape off the plastic trim, and it has to be taped off because it's so porous it just absorbs polish and stains and won't come out. Does anybody have any tricks that they use on Hummer's trim to...

3m rocks in a bottle (super duty rubbing compound)

Does anybody know how 3m's rocks-in-a-bottle compares with other heavy hitters, like 105 or powergloss? I was having a ***** of a time removing some 2000 gritt scratches in my gelcoat, until I took out my rocks-in-a-bottle and a yellow pad (didn't have any wool onhand). It marred up the...

    PFW maintenance

Are there any recommended ways to extend the life of a PFW pad? Usually I just spur it when I'm finished .... tried washing it, but that only seemed to be good for a time or two before it went from acting like a PFW pad, to acting like a regular wool pad, to doing absolutely nothing.

    Sanding carbon fiber

If you have carbon fiber (real, not stick on or laminate or whatever) that was clear-coated, but there are some deep imperfections in the clear that require a signifigant amount of wetsanding and re-clearing, if you wetsand them out and accidently go through the clear and into the carbon, will...

How does clear powdercoat on powdercoat 'work'?

If you have a panel that has been powdercoated and then clear powdercoated ontop of it (i.e., so not sprayed on, powercoated on), how tough is the clearcoat? For example, if I let it sit in my garage for 2mths, then wiped it down with a damp paper towel, will it show micro-marring? Can it be...

    Question about carbon fiber

How can I tell if a carbon fiber piece (actual carbon, not a laminate job) has been clearcoated or not? I think the piece has been (it's relatively shiney), but I'm not entirely certain. There's something holding me back making me think it isn't clearcoated yet......... :hm

    Paint vs (molded) plastic

How can one tell if something is painted versus molded plastic? The "vehicle" in question is a 96 John Deere Tractor (GT275) I was convinced it was SS (Imron), until I talked to somebody who seemed convinced it was green molded plastic....now I'm not certain. The reason I have doubts...

    Question about wetsanding

Right now I'm wetsanding gelcoat. Never done it before, but my steps are -220 -400 -600 -1000 -2000 -3401+sip+orange pad (for 0 sanding scratches) Needless to say, it's tedious, lol. Can I skip any steps, for example, go 2, 6, 1500, SIP, or am I pretty much stuck with doign the...
