My truck has stainless steel step bars (Nerf bars) that are thrashed, what can I do to get them polished and shiney???? I've tried Flitz and other compounds but it barely phased it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I tried the peanut butter trick on my black trim that had wax on it, even though it worked amazingly well there has got to be a better way. When the neighbor kid came over and asked what I was doing I tried to hide the fact I was smearing PB all over my trim. Too funny. What I'm looking for...
