How to safely remove clay bar residue from the edge of protective pain film ?

Sighs.... Today I washed the car and then clayed it using Riccardo's yellow clay bar + quick detailer. I thought getting clay bar residue off would be easy, so I clayed the whole car and then thought I'd clean off said residue at the edge of paint protective film - wrong I was !! The first few...

Can 303 aerospace protectant leave any stain on upholstery/fabrics ?

I performed a number of forum searches on this topic, but to no avail. The reason why I'm asking is because when applying to vinyl, some of it will inevitably get on adjacent upholstery. I'm concerned about this, so better safe than sorry. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what type of leather in 2015 VW Golf (aniline, semi-aniline, Nubuck) ?

I've spent an inordinate amount of time searching forums for this information. I've also looked at VW's website, but to no avail. I want to find out in order to know what type of product to use in maintaining the steering wheel and handbrake lever. I assume some of you car detailing pros know...

Top leather cleaner/conditioner picks for leather steering wheel in 2015 VW Golf.

Hello, I've been reading reviews and posts on the many leather conditioners/cleaners and I've noticed that Leather Master and Pinnacle's leather cleaner & conditioner get many nods - though I've also come across a number of apparently top-notch leather care products. A few things I'd like to...

    Door jambs/simple green question.

first, it may sound like a silly question, but do door jambs include the hinge area as well ? Second, I've read on detail city that Clean Dean uses simple green to clean door jambs--can't it damage/dull paint finish ? Isn't it too strong a cleaner ? It cleans very well, and that's what I use...

Do some of you wax the inside frame of doors ?

I wonder if some of you wax the inside of door frames ? If so how do you prep it up ? Using a hose there wouldn't be a good idea for obvious reaso, so you simply use a washmitt and then carefullly rinse, or perhaps you've found a less time consuming manner ? Let me know :)

    rotary buffer holograms help.

I'm using a rotary buffer at 1400 rpm, with the following combo : 3M's PI III MG part # 5937, which is non filling swirl mark remover with 3M's convoluted polishing pad, which are soft pads, BUT I still get some holograms out of this last combo--what could I be doing wrong ? The car is black by...

how often can a polish be used, without any problems ?

Given OEM clears are thin, 1.05-2.0 mils ? How safe is a *swirl remover* polish like PI III MG from 3M if used twice a year ? I mean, although polish are soft OEM clears are very thin. 1.5-2.0 mils in my eyes is ever so thin, albeit heard, at least the first .5 mil. I like to keep my cars a long...

how to remove dried up compound without scratching the paint ?

ways to remove dried up compound without scratching the paint ? 3M compound works pretty well, but if one let it sit too long, it's a bummer to remove once dried up. Aside from alcohol and quick detailer, is there anything I may not have thought about to remove it ? Clay ? Let me know as I...

    rotary help !

help ! Ok, here's what I do : I wash my car, rinse it, let it air dry, then break out the rotary, prime my Meg's finishing pad, so no area is dry--I prime it with compound of course . I smear the compound round with the rotary off. I then start buffing with 3M's machine glaze 5937, and keep the...

moving the buffer too slowly creates swirls ?

Would you agree, or confirm that given one use a polishing pad + polish, spinning the buffer at 1400-1500 rpm, can create or introduce marring/swirls in the finish, if the rotary is moved too slowly over the paint surface, because it then has time to mark the paint surface more ? Thanks

    rotary buffer and overlapping passes

What happens if one doesn't overlap each pass by 50% using a rotary buffer ? Does it create holograms ? What would be the proper way to avoid holograms ? Thank you

    smearing or actual holograms ?

Have some of you using 3M's MG 5937 noticed what first appeared to be holograms, but turned out to be just oily residues ? I finished polishing my metallic black car, using the above + Meg's finishing pad, which is very soft ( iused the rotary buffer at 1400 rpm), and when I was done I took in...
