(Skynard): Ew ew, that smell! Can't you smell that smell?!

I'm looking for an amazing, yet subtle scent. I mean one that will have people itching to get into my car so they can breathe the great smelling air. I've sniffed every cheap air freshener out there and those things are pitiful. I want something that smells real, not artificial and cheap...

    Ridiculous drought

Ok, today was the day. I had been planning this for quite some time but I have been to busy to get started. Here was the plan: 1) wash 2) clay 3) FI-II horizontal panels with rotary and cutting Meguiar's pad 4) #9 2.0 with rotary and Meguiar's polishing pad 5) AIO with PC, white polishing...

    Could it be? Cotton? 100%?

I was looking for some rotary pads and came across this site. Very good site, from what I've seen so far. Lots of pads for rotary or PC, the Lake Country kind as sold on Proper Auto Care. I found a wash mitt that they claim is 100% cotton, and at $5, it looks like I might have to give it a...

    Cheap degreasers

I have been using Greased Lightning for most of my degreasing needs, and actually, I made the switch from Simple Green, which was more expensive than GL. I am wondering if I can safely go even cheaper to the Castrol Super Clean or Purple Power, available at Wal-Mart for about half the price of...

    The solution

I recently posted two new threads: one about getting an air compressor so I could blow things out of the tiny cracks inside, and another about getting a new vaccuum. It didn't seemed justified to get an air compressor for the sole purpose of car detailing since I don't have any pneumatic tools...

    I want one that sucks

and blows. Yep, it's time to get a new vaccuum cleaner. I've been searching the archives for what is sufficient, and I keep coming accross different information. Here's what I want: the smaller the better (for portable use), 2 1/2 diameter hose, blower or blower port, and sufficient...

    Pads for a rotary

7 1/2 inch is the best size to have for a rotary, right? It seems like the 8 1/2 inch pads offered at properautocare.com are too big and can create too much heat on the corners of the pads, especially on the wool. Even 1100 RPM with a 8 1/2 inch pad sounds dangerous around the corners. I need...

    My new favorite toy: air!

I went over to a friend's house who has a nice, big air compressor. I must say, it is my new favorite piece of equipment! I sprayed a little vinyl cleaner or 303 in the cracks inside my console area and blew all the dust and dirt away that no q-tip or toothbrush could ever reach. It's also...

Now appearing at Wal-Mart: a subsitute for Rain-X

I found this stuff called Rain Block in the Wal-Mart shelves. It's in a black 12 oz bottle near the Rain-X. It was almost half the cost of Rain-X, so I decided to give it a try. After using Rain-X glass polish to remove Rain-X, I applied Rain Block last night the same way I apply Rain-X...

First time working at detailing shop

A friend of mine has a son in high school (rising senior?? Probably 17 or 18) who has been doing good detailing work on his own for about seven months (he has his own weekend mobile jobs with a few customers). He is seeking a job in a detailing shop so he can have steady work for the rest of...

Can 100% cotton wash mitts be made?

Would it be safe to get a fluffy, soft 100% cotton towel and cut it up and then stitch it into wash mitts? I'm having trouble finding these 100% cotton mitts locally, and it seems practical and cheaper to make them yourself, but I don't want to do it unless I'm sure it's safe. What do you think?

Anything have more oils and fillers than IHG?

This is more of a "I've always wondered" question than a need to know question, but would we agree that 3M Imperial Hand Glaze has the most oils and fillers? Or is there something else out there that fills in swirls and adds a quick gloss even better?

    De-Solve It!

I picked up some of this stuff at Wal-Mart called De-Solve It. Just thought I'd mention the success I had with it. I sprayed it on some tar I've been having trouble with, let it sit for a minute, then wiped the tar off with some pressure. It worked great. It also worked very well removing...

I found some products not mentioned yet, ever hear of them?

First, allow me to taunt you. I'm in Burnsville, NC right now, and there's a splendid department store called Roses that carries all sorts of hard to find, discontinued, or sometimes expired items for very cheap. Their automotive section carried about 50 bottles of Rain-X Wheel Protectant...

Out with the old problems, in with the new... HELP!

My hood was in pretty bad shape. There were several chip marks and some deep scratches that wouldn't come out, but worst of all, a few dents in the crease of the hood where someone jumped on it. Dent Wizard said they couldn't remove those type of dents, due to its position or something, so...

Wheel test: Klasse twins vs. Rain-X Wheel Protectant

I decided I would put my $2.50 Rain-X Wheel Protectant (which is supposadly discontinued, but I found many bottles of it at Roses) to the test against the $40+ Klasse twins on the wheels. After a thorough cleaning and drying, I sprayed a thin coat of Rain-X Wheel Protectant on the passenger...

    Black Magic wheel wipes

I was in Pep Boys today and saw something interesting-- Black Magic Wheel Wipes (there were a bunch more wipes from BM). With my BMW brakes, even Klasse or Rain-X wheel protectectant can't stop the merciless amount of brake dust I get each day. I usually wipe my wheels down with a sponge every...

    Meg's 205 and Tangerine?

Hope you didn't miss me! I've been out of town for a while :) Anyway, was studying the car care section in Wal-Mart (like I do very often), and I found a 3M rubberized coating spray. They say it can be used under wheel wells. I would have bought it, just for fun, but I didn't feel like...

    opti coat 2.0

It's that time again for removing swirls, fixing mistakes, removing scratches, reducing oxidation, and perfecting the protection on your pride and joy. Most of all, removing swirls! Here's my game plan that I will execute in about week: 1) Dawn wash 2) Mother's Clay 3) FI-II with PC-...

    Greetings from Chicago burbs!

I love Mother's Clay Bar, and I am very happy that I can get it for right under $14 at Wal-Mart. The only thing is, I have no use for cleaner waxes, and the Mother's QD is the worst I have ever used. $14 isn't a bad price at all, but considering one clay bar only gets about 5 uses, that's...
