    Is carnauba obsolete?

with the great polymer sealants available are carnaubas obsolete? Or do they have a decided edge in the show car community?

    Trader Horn- rotary...

I stopped in a local Trader Horn and they had an 11amp rotary(100-3000rpm) for $52-it also came with a 2 year warranty. If you have a local store it would be worth looking into.

What's your opinion? Is this line the Holy Grail of automotive detailing destined to make all other product lines obsolete?

    synthetic steel wool pads...

found them at PepBoys. they are made in 00,000,0000 grade. Maybe these would be an alternative to wetsanding or use by hand with a compound.

    HTEC and OHC mixed...

I mixed HTEC and OHC 50/50 and used with an Edge yellow and rotary. This required a bit of a delicate balance as far as working. Too much product and it tended to splatter but was easy to work with. Not enough product and it dried rather fast. The cut seemed improved vs OHC by itself and it...

    wool vs foam...

are wool pads more effective at diminishing below the surface defects such as etching and scratches vs foam pads (flat or wave)?

    ZPC by rotary....

After using OHC with a yellow Edge pad, I followed up with ZPC with an Edge green lite cut pad. To really test ZPC i first rubbed some 2000 grit sandpaper over a little scratch. I kind of scared myself so I took some OHC by hand and tried to remove the sanding marks-didn't make much of an...

    Edge yellow vs Megs burgundy...

on a rotary. I decided to day to reattempt to reduce lots of etching on my hood. I first tried the Megs burgundy pad with OHC as many feel it's a very aggressive pad. It worked well and was easy to control but didn't seem all that aggressive. I switched to the Edge yellow and immediately could...

    Compounds and light cut pads...

would an aggressive compound such as HTEC work effectively with a green light cut pad on a rotary? Would that be too aggressive? How would Blue moose compare? Would multiple applications of OHC (which I have) be safer and equally effective? I also have a yellow medium cutting pad but would...

    Got Tar?

I decided to throw a coat of Duragloss 111 on our work pickup. I used the 601(with a cotton applicator) as a base figuring it would be a strong enough cleaner to remove little tar micro-dots (from road construction) since I didn't want to do a full machine polish on the vehicle. I was surprised...

    Zaino vs Duragloss...

Since someone asked about this in the 601 thread I figured I'd give my opinion. I picked up 601/111 last year for durability. Based on my testing 111 is a pretty durable product -a 50/50 mix won't kill it. It does seem to bead water better with 601 used as a base. It is a very clear looking...

    cotton applicators

I've been using some Target terry applicators(wet) and they apply products pretty nicely. What I have noticed is that I seem to get some streaking or uneven application due to the loops. I've had it occur with Zaino and Tropicare so it isn't a sealant issue. I don't seem to have the same issue...

    Tropicare orange cutting pad...

I have an 11k RO sander and I've played around with the TC orange pad. This pad is made by LC and is a great all purpose pad. I've used it with ZPC on navy blue mettallic to remove hollogramming and it left a nice enough finish (without hazing) to go staight to my LSP. 2 thumbs up.

    Z2pro tweaked?

Has Z2pro been tweaked? I had a small sample I got from a member and it was thick and pink and a bit difficult to apply thinly. I recently got an 8 ounce bottle of Z2pro and it was thinner-more like Z5pro consistancy. It also seemed to apply easier(even though I only did a small panel. Has...

    Tropicare Non silicone dressing...

a applied some of this to the rubber edges of my T tops. Some smeared onto the glass. After drying I noticed this. I attempted to remove it with glass cleaner. It didn't come off. This is some pretty durable stuff. I'll have to try something a bit stronger.

    Zpc vs SSR's...

what SSR is ZPC closest to cut wise?

    Tropicare orange cutting pad...

This is made by Lake Country so I am assuming it's basically the same as their other orange pads. It is a light cutting/firm polishing pad. With a mild polish such as Mothers Powerpolish it leaves a LSP ready surface. With a more aggressive polish/compound it should remove more difficult swirls...

the flip side of orange peel...

We all know that there isn't anything nicer than a show car with smooth as glass paint and 3-5 coats of clear. But, assembly line paint jobs always have some orange peel, some worse than others. Is this neccessarily a bad thing? If your car's orange peel looks like hail damage I'd say that's bad...
