How hard is SS green usually?

Probably varies manufacturer to manufacturer, but typically SS black is soooooo soft it isn't even funny, and SS white is hard as nails. Any idea about SS green? I did a bit of work on my John Deere today (SS green) and ended up using SIP+PFW+3401. Even on speed 6 I barely made a dent -...

Waffle weave towels - green vs blue

Is there a difference between green wws, like The Guzzler Waffle Weave Microfiber Drying Towel by Cobra is a better drying towel than a chamois, or terry cloth towel. Microfiber makes the best and blue, like 3 Pack Blue Waffle Weave Drying Towels, car drying towels Both pass cd test...

    CD testing

I've always wondered, how does the surface of a cd compare to clearcoat softness. What i mean by that is all are cds super soft, like a bentley clear, or medium softness, or what?

What would you follow SIP with on Flex?

I'm getting into the swing of things with my Flex 3401 and Menzerna again. Once you've done white (or orange) and SIP, if the surface is perfect would you do 106/white, 106/black, 85u/white or 85u/black? (or would you use a blue pad - I picked up some new whites, as well as a few black and...

Wash water; better warm or cold?

With ONR, is it better to have your washing water cold (like right from the hose) or warm? I think warmer will cause dirt to loosen faster/better from the wash media?

ONR on brand new paint job

If you have a non-factory brand new paint job, can you use ONR to wash it, or do you want to wait 3mths or so before you wash it with ONR? Seems silly, but I've seen that ONR adds some gloss to the paint and beading ability, so I don't know.

    I know - wetsand!

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm wondering if anybody has noticed this trend lately - we have more and more damaged threads (burned clear, etc.. etc...) popping up, and it "oddly" seems that people are turning to/recommending more and more aggressive methods. For example, when the new 105 came...

Probably the scariest thing I've ever heard

I had a local "professional" detailer (who didn't know I knew about detailing) tell me that the only way to remove swirls&scratches from day to day wear and tear and washing is wetsanding with 1500. Of course since you can only do this 2-3x max on a car before going through the clear, he advises...

    Clearcoat failure

I see 80microns being tossed around on here quite frequently as the place where most people stop serious corrections. If a car has, say, 115 from the factory, 80 is only a 30% reduction in clear, so why would going below that cause potential failure? Does clearcoat need an absolute...

    Which removes less clear?

With 1 pass on a flex 3401, will an orange pad+SIP remove more clear than a PFW pad+SIP? (given each has the same pressure, travel time, etc...) The reason I ask is because until yesterday I've never used a PFW, but for some reason my cyclpo+orange+extreme cut (gloss-it) was having difficulty...

SIP + PFW = removing wetsanding scratches

In past threads I've read that people say SIP (but not IP) suck with wool pads. I tried SIP+flex 3401+PFW today and after several passes (1pass=east/west) it pulled out all the 2000 grit scratches. So I'm wondering if people are referring to wool pads OTHER than PFW when they say...

    Compounding single stage paint

I compounded a single stage supra today (black). (as usual) got paint transfer to my pads. However, when I was wiping the area down with my microfiber, I got a bit of paint transfer onto the towel also. This is the first time on single stage that this (paint transfer during wipeoff of...

    Meguiar's microfiber wash mitt

Has anybody else been totally disappointed with the meguiar's mf wash mitt? I purchased 3 from autogeek for lower body work (I liked the micro-chinelle for upper), and even after a polish the lower sections are completely trashed. I cd tested all 3 and all 3 (whether wet or dry) scratched...

    Collinite 845

Got it today - it was basically like 1 big wax candle in a bottle ( :cooleek: ). I tried shaking it for 5 or 6minutes and got nowhere, so I put it in some heated water and let it soak for 15minutes. When I took it out it was basically all liquid; I shook it for a good 6 or 7minutes, still thin...

How long to wait before clear-bra?

My 65 shelby cobra is getting painted shortly. I need to clear-bra the bottom portion of the rear fender wheels (they get beat to HELL very quickly). The only problem is I don't know how long to wait? I don't want to wait too long, because that area gets hammered very quickly  I...

    Polishing gelcoat

I figured this the most appropriate forum because RVs and marine stuff usually is gelcoat. When I search for information polishing gelcoat, I get a lot of the same - gelcoat is hard to polish because it's so porous, you need special polishes, etc... etc... Normally, on automotive gelcoat...

How to polish marble? (counter tops)

I realize this isn't automotive related, but I couldn't find a better forum for it, heh. My marble countertops have MASSIVE swirls in them. Is there some product that would be very effective for correcting them, then sealing it?

    "Frequent" use of optimum poli-seal

On a soft black that frequently mars from washing (despite wash technique), would it be too excessive to use a cyclo, white pad, and optimum poli-seal (poli-seal, not opti-seal) every 2months or so to remove the marring that pops up? On the one hand it's nowhere near aggressive, but on the...
