Six coats of Zaino lasted four months

The six coats of Z-5 on my car seem to be exhausted in four months. Certainly not bad durability, but I live in Southern California in near perfect weather. I have been washing a lot less in the past two months, which is the time period where I received the most loss in beading. I'd like to...

Having less time to detail, I realize I was obsessive

Lately the amount of time I've had to detail has been reduced substantially, but perhaps it is the best thing to happen to me. I was one of those "once a week" washers and was never pleased with the appearance of my car. Weekly I used q-tips to reach between body panel seams and would...

    Clay by PC, unsafe!

Who else thinks that this is unsafe? It is Griot's clay holder for the PC. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10631

What kind of wash mitt do you use?

I'm curious to see what kind of wash mitt people use. Please take the poll. Personally, I use sheepskin. Some people (ahem, you know who you are) tell me that this method is terrible. I feel that it works great, does not harm the paint, and gets the job done.

Platinum UPP vs. S100 Durability test

We all want to know, so I've decided to find out for myself. This product is much debated, so I'll leave that to your discretion. Basically S100 (P21s) paste wax is below average for durability when it comes to carnauba based waxes. Platinum UPP is, well, we don't know what it is and no one...

A carnauba user gives in and tries Zaino

I thought this might be useful for die-hard carnauba users... All I have ever used up until now was carnauba wax, specifically S100 paste wax (the P21S twin brother). The car is a black C32 AMG. Here's my analysis of S100, with a base of #7. Likes: Great shine, shimmering effect, depth...

Big Waffle Weave MF towel from 4Star Products

This microfiber towel measures 20"x40" and has the primary purpose of drying your vehicle. Its main competitor, the BBT, is 25"x36". Therefore, this towel is 100 sq. inches smaller in surface area overall. The price difference is $13 for this towel, vs. $25 for the BBT. I seem to have paid...

My PC and Platinum coming soon...

Well, I'm staring at my car outside the window, gazing at the P21S shimmer. It's a little hot outside, so it almost feels as if the wax wants to melt off the car. I'm hesitant to strip everything, but my next combo should be outstanding. I finally have the PC from coastaltools.com on the way...

    Tortuga's washing instructions

(Tortuga posted these wonderful car washing instructions over at the C32Life message board, and I thought they were pretty darn good for any newbies arriving here. I hope he does not mind me posting them. It does not cover every little nuance you could possibly ever want to know, but it stands...

    Long story, a few questions.

My aunt in moving here to San Diego because of a career change. She had her car shipped from Dallas and it arrived yesterday. Needless to say, the car (1998 Toyota Camry, dark red) was absolutely filthy when it arrived and was an autopian nightmare. I don't know what the condition of the...

    C32 AMG pictures

Hey all, I finally have some pictures of my detailing work. These were taken around 7PM right after applying Meguiar's #7 and S100 paste wax. I found the finish to look very deep and wet on the first day. About a week later I washed the car and the shine was much brighter and reflective...

    Zaino usage tips?

I'm a carnuba man, I love the depth and the personality, and don't mind the lack of durability. You can't convince me on Zaino yet! However, I have a co-worker that I recommended Zaino to a year ago. I recently talked to him again about it and he said he uses 3-4 oz. of Zaino ( for each Z-2...

    Microfiber/Scotchbrite foam pad by 3M

I was looking for an applicator in my house and ran into this product from 3M. It is basically a fairly dense foam pad covered with microfiber on one side and scotchbrite paper. The MF side is not as plush as I'd like. The other side is an abrasive paper for scrubbing, but this particular...

    Murphy's Oil Soap

I tried Murphy's oil soap on our leather couch today and it really looked refreshed afterwards. It did not to seem dry it out any and left the surface very nice. However, I dug out an article DavidB wrote, so now I'm glad I didn't try it on the car yet (wait, my couch costs more than the...

Anyone have comments on Finish First? It seems very similar to Klasse. The only thing I could find on this board was the post by the owner of the blue Porsche.

    carnuba melting

My car was outside briefly in the 91 degree weather we had today. I was wondering, if I had left it out all day, would the carnuba eventually melt?

Applying wax with fingers instead of foam pad

I'm going to using P21S wax on my car. Though the jar came with a foam applicator, does anyone else find it easier to appy with just one or two fingers? It seems like the wax speads more and you use much less. The foam applicator seems like it would waste a lot of wax when it soaks it up.

Going to do my first proper detail, new black car

Hey Guys, I'm going to start my first full detail on my brand new car that happens to be black. On my old car, all I did was wash (with wax every 6 months). Here is the process I have planned out for just the paint, please advise: 1) Wash with dawn 2) Clay the car with claymagic, too...
