Diluted Duragloss AW as a QD

Anyone else using diluted Duragloss Aquawax as a QD? The Aquawax straight-up was the best spray wax I've yet tried, so I recently stated diluting it (4:1) and using it as a QD and seems to be working excellent for this purpose.

    I never would have thought

Recently I just started advertising for the first time...and I'm sure to state that I'm a paint correction expert. I never would have thought, but I'm getting calls from other professionals wanting help removing the swirls from their customer's vehicles...basically, jobs they couldn't tackle...

    DI water vs Hard water

I just started using DI water and had a pretty "far fetched" quandry: Does anybody think hard water (with lots of minerals and deposits) can actually contribute to washing-induced marring...or are the deposits so small this can't possibly be the case? My gut tells me it won't make any...

    ? on Corvette Coupe Roof

Does anyone know the skinny on the Corvette Coupe Roofs - is it simply dark tint film over clear plastic, or what? I'm asking because I got a call from someone that wants some water spots removed from this part...and my guess would be that the spots have eteched their way in a bit, usually...

    Large black vehicles kill me

Everytime I do paint correction work on a large black vehicle (like a Navigator, Suburban, or even Escalade) I regret it. It's a good thing I enjoy this work so much, cause I just can't charge enough for these monsters...sure, I charge more...but not enough. I did a complete detail (interior...

    Compared compounds today...

Just thought I'd share my findings: While detailing a black Tahoe today I decided to compare compunds - I tested to see how much each cut and how well each finished down. I judged cut not only by the amount of swirls removed, but I also lightly sanded the panels with 3000 paper so I could see...

    Lambswool vs. Cutting Pad

I hardly ever find myself using aggressive cutting pads (like the typical yellow foam) because (via rotary at least) I actaully have a better finish left behind when I use lambswool pads...and the lambswool gives me TONS more cut. Anybdy share these findings/results with me? I even get a better...

    Looking for really skinny tape

Anyone know where I can find some really skinny tape for detailing - I've been using the 3/4", 1.5", 2" and 3" blue painter's tape (3m/Scotch), but sometimes I wish I had 1/4" and 1/2" tape. Anyone have any suggestions (other than cutting the tape)? Also, I also often wish I had flexible tape...

    5" Rotary Backing Plate?

Anybody know of any good 5" rotary backing pates (5" - 5.5" will due)? I'm looking from something a little smaller to complement my 6" backing plates, as I've accumulated a few pads that are a tad too small for the 6" plate. How's that megs 5" plate?

Best and worst vehicles to buff

I was curios as to what vehicles others have found to be condusive and non conducive to buffing - some vehicles just turn out to be a real PITA to polish (especially with a rotary). Vehicles with lots of unpainted plastic (requiring lots of expensive tape), broken up body lines, lots of exposed...

    Machine Washing Pads

I've been washing my pads in the washing machine more and more (basically because I was lazy)...I used to pressure rinse them out with a hose and would use dawn and APC to for my cleaner. But I've found the washing machine (front loader) is doing a much better job than when I do it by hand -...

Will I get the buff job?

Today I washed cars for a property management company and they got a new employee, and thus I had a new car to wash - a black Acura (RSX I think)? Sad to say it's only an 02, but it already looks like it's had 10 years of really bad washing. I decided to clay and polish out 1/2 the spoiler as a...

    Lexus/Toyota Black SS paint

I'm really starting to like the new style single stage black paint Lexus and Toyota seem to be using lately. The clear/basecoat mixture they use provides all the gloss of CC/BC blacks and yet it seems to be slightly less sensative (though all black paint is crazy-sensative); I believe this...

    Black Lexus Paint

When I detailed this Lexus quite some time ago, I couldn't figure out if it was tinted clear or single stage paint because I got a "moderate" amount of color on my pads. Subsequently there's been a lot of speculation regarding black Lexus paint - though I don't know which models/years is applies...

    Wax/Sealants w/o oily residue

I'm curious what waxes or sealants others have found to leave an oil-free finish? I really only notice it on the "perfectly buffed" black finish, but I really don't like that oily finish most waxes and sealants leave on black (though I know it goes away after a wash); I just buffed out a...

    HT Extreme Cut...thoughts

I've now finished my "sample" pint of EC+ and I'm still as impressed with this stuff as I was the first time I tried it - it seems to offer more cut than PG and yet finishes down even better...this is impressive considering PG greater exceeds all other compounds in this regard. Howerver, like...

    3M 5995 Question

Somebody told me the 5996 (not sure of actual name) is great for finishing down on black with a DA without leaving any micro-gashing or haze. Has anyone used this on black paint that can attest to this? Thanks.

Best Final Finishing Pad for Rotary

For those of you who choose/are able to finish down on black halogram free with a rotary, what pad have you found to be the best (least aggressive) for this. For me it's been the Green Propel II, this might surprise some since the the blue and white propel pads are "softer"...but they seem to...

    Waterless dri-wash?

Yesterday I detailed a Corvette that get's washed by some mobile guy once per week who supposedly uses a waterless dri-wash...the behicle owner sais he uses about 1/4 of a small spray bottle to spray and wipe the car clean. I told him his car looked like it...I should have asked him if the guy...

    Bodyshop strikes again

I guess I shouldn't dislike bodyshops so much...afterall, they do inadvertantly send me a lot of work :o This time the buffer swirls weren't "too" bad, but they sure scratched the piss out of it when they washed it; and it was 90% swirl-free before they got their hands on it...I know...
