Thank God for G - 1st Picture Posting

PowerGloss never ceases to amaze me. Today I used it on a customer's black Lexus with a rotary and a firm polishing pad. This combination removed 98% of the defects (and this vehicle was HAMMERED) and barely left any rotary holograms, allowing me to finish with #9 and a white propel pad with the...

Simple Green foam gun on back order?

I ordered a Simple Green foam gun from Power Supply Accessories Warehouse through ebay but they just notified me that they are on back order an don't expect any more in till 3/1. This won't do. Also, they really made me mad because this place gouged me with $16 shipping ($65 total) and didin't...

    Car covers for daily drivers

Similar to the "california duster" question, I sometimes have customers aske me about using car covers to maintain the near perfect finish I just created on their vehicle. So I'm seeking feedback from Autopians - only used a car cover on one of my vehicles in the past, and it was white so it was...

    California duster feedback

Every once in while customers ask me about using a California Duster to keep their vehicles looking clean longer. Though I do not use one myself, I usually tell them they could use it only when the vehicle has a very light dust film (like the day after washing), but not to use it if their cars...

How much time do you spend?

On a typical 4 door car with heavy swirls, how long does it take you to do an exterior detail including defect (swirls and scratches) removal. (presuming most people 1-wash, 2-clay, 3-compound, 4-polish, and 5-LSP). For me, this procedure often runs 5 hours (and sometimes 6). I suppose I...

    Cleaning factory suede in Audi

Have a new customer who wants a complete detail on his Audi that apparently has suede in the door panels and headliner - apparently it was a special order straight from the Audi factory. Anyways...haven't had to clean suede before, but would guess a mild cleaner (like diluted 303 cleaner) would...

    Heat Generation Desirable?

This is another one of those topics that it difficult to attain a diffinitive answer to - is it desirable to generate a moderate amount of heat when buffing? Presumably this applys to a rotary, as it is pretty damn hard to generate heat with a PC. I've read articles and heard discussions...

Wash Mitt vs. Boars Hair Brush

Most savvy enthusiasts have no doubt used a sheep skin wash mitt, but for those who have also used a good quality boars hair brush, how do you feel it stacks up? Personally, I like to use both tools in conjunction. I feel the boars hair brush is easier to use, but is too soft to remove bugs...

    Which ETG Should I Buy?

I'm finally going to break down and by an ETG. But which one should I buy? I was looking at the ETG-A (aka ETG-1) from Auto International for the best compromise between quality and price...but maybe there is another viable option? Thanks.

    Prime and AIO?

Does prime have the same cleaning power as AIO, or is it a bit more mild. I've found that a few passes with AIO can take care of VERY light marring or remaining rotary/buffer marks and was wondering how Prime would work for this.

    Zaino Missing Big Boat

First...I like using many of Zaino's products. I guess it's there own prerogative, but Zaino is missing out on a lot of sales by not offering "volume" alternatives for professional or part-time detailers and not distrubiting to popular retailers. At $35 plus S&H for 8oz of polish with ZFX...

    Wolfgang ETS Polishing Pad Tested

I tested the Wolfgang ETS DA 6.5" polishin pads on a vehicle today using a rotary. I know, I know, they were designed for a DA. However, other company's pads that were designed for DA machines have proven to be great with rotaries. In any case, these (white) pads are a bit stiff and inflexible...

    Overspray Removal Advice

Clay or solvent...which is better for overspray removal? What do you do about the plastic and rubbber trim? In the past, I've usually just clayed overspray off, then buffed the paint to remove any marring. But I've also used solvent to get overspray off. I've removed overspray off a few cars in...

    American Buffing Pads

Anyone know were to buy these pads? I bought a dozen or so from Kleen Car but the site appears to be offline. When I both them, I asked for 3 of every pad they make - I got a white finessing pad, a blue polishing pad, a green light cut pad, and a yellow heavy cut pad. Unfortunately only the...

    FK1 Decontamination System

Has anyone had good luck using this system? I've read the hype on their website, but has anyone ever used it and actually noticed significant difference in preventing contamination. For me, I'm looking to get a leg up on the rust specking/contamination that plagues the beach community I live in...

    1Z Metalic Polish Questions

Per the "favorite ligh polish with fillers" thread, I'm going to order some 1Z MP to try. With this polish stain plastic trim? I assume it works equally well with a rotary or DA? Finally, using the Mequairs scale, what is estimate abrasiveness? Where is the best place to order (pakshak)?

    Best and Worst Paint/Clear Coats

In your detailing experience, which car company has the best paint system? Who has the worst? Of course, justify your reasoning (i.e. too hard, orange peel common, too thin, lifeless colors, faulty clear coats...) Personally, I think Lexus has the best paint/clear coat, as we have major rust...

What's your favorite light polish with fillers

What's your favorite light-duty polish with fillers? For me, it's #9. With a rotary it removes light swirls (helps fill deeper swirls), is easy to work with, does not dust, and leaves a wet look matched by very few polishes. Also, it's mild enough that I can use with a rotary and plolishing...

    Modern Clear Coat?

What's the deal with new clear coats where they supposedly have all of the UV inhibitors/protection on the top layer? I suppose then they are spraying two or more coats of clear with the top coat being a special UV protection coat? Where can I do more research on this?
