    Need Chrome Polish

OK, can anyone recommend good chrome polish? I just tried Mothers, and man was it a waste of time. The only good I can say is it removed the little bit of brake dust I had. I've got light scratches on my wheels, and it didn't touch it. You can see it in this pic.

    Finally (almost) Done! (many 800x600)

Here is my new daily driver I bought in August. 2003 Bonneville SLE. I figure I spent close to 14 hours so far and have a couple more to go finishing up the interior. I'm not totally happy with the results, there are still a lot of scratches. The car is probably 80-90% swirl free though, so...

    Durability Question

OK, so I've been wondering how long my steps will last me over the winter and a thought came up. I should eventually figure it out myself, but what is the relation between sealant and wax as far as durability? What I mean is that does layering one product on top of another have any affect on...

How much time needed between coats?

OK, I'm in the home stretch finally. I just put on a coat of EX-P this afternoon, and a second will hopefully be applied Sunday afternoon. I did a search and had conflicting answers, but should I wait another 24 hours before putting on the 845 IW? I'd like to do a coat at least sometime...

    Bad marring from Claymagic

Has anyone else had a bad experience of marring from Claymagic claybar? When I first found out about claying last year I bought one, and it worked great. I just bought a new one a couple months ago, and just used it for the first time on my black Bonneville. I just did the hood mostly since I...

    Need Advice from Optimum Users

Well last night I got my replacement backing plate and worked on the hood of my Bonneville. I made two passes with OHC, and then one pass with OP. And just like with my other car, pretty much all the swirls look to be gone, but there are still a lot of scratches. They aren't deep scratches...

    My first Detail

OK, partial detail at this point. With an 18 month old and getting ready for another in two months I don't have lots of time to dedicate, so I still have the interior to finish up, as well as a few other things like trying to polish the headlights. I wasn't trying to get it perfect, just...

    Anyone ever restore colored plastic?

We're having a discussion on an Oldsmobile board about faded plastic fenderwells. Has anyone ever successfully restored anything like this? I was wondering if wetsanding/polishing would work like it does for headlights. Haven't had any luck finding much on the 'net. It's all about the hard...

    Winter product storage

Living in Michigan is there any need to keep my stuff (polish, etc.) in the house, or will it be OK in the garage (not heated)?

    Guess the car

Well I finished up with the wax tonight, but there wasn't any sun out to get some good shots. There was just enough light to take one of the reflection off the door as a teaser. OK, not much to tease with since it's just an 11 year old Oldsmobile, but I think it's looking much better. I hope...

    Anyone Fix their Backing Plate?

Well after using my PC a grand total of about 3 hours my 5" backing plate is half ripped in half. I have yet to hear from Autogeek on replacing it. I was hoping to go on to the next vehicle this coming weekend, but in case I don't get a replacement by then has anyone has success fixing theirs...

    Need Advice on trim

I have a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville, and I need advice on how to handle the trim around the windows. It feels to be either a plastic with a soft coating, or else a hard rubber. It has the appearance of being painted. When I first got the car, I was doing some hand polishing and got some on the...

Do I need something more aggessive?

Holy crap I can't believe how long this is taking! I spent a good three hours on buffing the car, just one step, and I'm only 80% done! My question is whether I need to go more aggressive. I'm not planning to buff this one to perfection because it's and 11 year old daily driver that I...

    What is hazing?

I've seen people refer to hazing when using a heavier cut compound or such. What exactly does this refer to, light swirls? I ask because on the area I have done on my hood so far it finished up great using OHC. I still have a few scratches that I want to work on, but I really don't see any...

    Excited Newbie Autoptian

I'm so excited I just had to take a minute to thank everyone here, especially the people that run this site. I haven't had any direct advice, but just being able to read the plethora of info here is awesome! I just received my stash of goodies from Autogeek this afternoon after picking up my...

    Everything including the bathroom sink!

Doing a search I found that a couple people have had good results polishing their cultured marble countertops. I don't really know what our bathroom countertop is made from, it was purchased at Menards a few years ago, and it's plain white. Looking at current offerings at such stores, it looks...

    Concerns about manufacture of PC

The other thread about the power washer got me thinking about the PC. I'm planning to pick one up at Lowes tomorrow. How are these machines? I know I've heard about companies having their machines made cheaply for stores like Lowes, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea buying a PC from Lowes...

    Newbie from Michigan

Hey folks, just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Doug, I found this site from another car site a few months ago and have been lurking. After doing research to figure out what I want, I placed my first product order yesterday and will try to pick up a PC this week. I have my work...

Is it important to use one line of products?

Trying to decide what products to purchase for the first time, is there any need to stick with the same line of products for detail? I figured I would get a couple polishes in either the Poorboys line or Optimum. If I were to get the Poorboys products would I get better results if I then used...

    Winterizing Chrome Wheels?

I couldn't really find much on chrome wheels other than cleaning them. I have the factory chromes on my Bonneville and I'm wondering if there are any special ways people use to protect them in winter other than just sealant/wax?
