Different size pads on a Flex

I read tdekany post a while back that he uses a Flex and can use any size pad on it. I had always heard that the Flex has the geared backing plate and therefore was restricted to 6.5" pads. Anyone know of a way to actually do this? I've tried searches but nothing came back. TIA

Chemical Guys CWG vs. CWC vs. CW..?????

OK, I have done a search but I've only come up with a ton of threads showing people using these soaps. I see that DI has all 3 Citrus Wash styles for sale and was thinking of picking some up, but I'm really confused as to the differences between them, especially CWG and CWC. The DI descriptions...

    Autopians in/around Charlotte, NC

Maybe this is a weird request, but I was wondering if anyone in the Charlotte area could use a free hand on some Sundays or Mondays. I've sort of hit a wall with my detailing process and would love to see how more experienced detailers do it. I'm not necessarily asking to follow pros around like...

How to move PC in awkward areas?

I'm hoping maybe some pros who use the PC regularly can help me with a couple of questions. First, it's a given that any real correction with a PC requires pressure and speed 5 or higher. Now say you're doing a long hood like on a pickup or a roof. How do you use enough pressure to get decent...

    What's up w/ Poli-Seal?

How do you use this stuff? I've read to use sparingly and the instructions also say to only use enough to keep the pad lubricated across the paint. Check. Then it says to wipe off any excess. Huh? Excess? Even when I use a decent amount of PS, I almost never see anything on the paint. When my PC...

    CCS pad users-Help!

I'm running into a problem working on a friends truck, and I think maybe the pads may be the problem. He has a black 97 Nissan Hardbody pickup that is beat up beyond belief. It's taken me most of the day to compound just 1 rear quarter with M105 on 4" flat LC pads with my PCXP. The swirls have...

    Quick PFW question

It seems like a lot of you guys like your PFW pads for cutting w/M105 so I purchased some to try out. I've been mostly using LC 4" orange pads with my PCXP and it requires a good bit of pressure to get anything done. No news there. But when using PFW pads with a PC, do you still need the same...

    Side by side-M205/D151/1zPP

A couple of days ago a question came up of possibly using D151 as a less expensive substitute for my dwindling M205 reserves. The level of cut is similar and both use non-diminishing technology, so it had me wondering. After seeing a MOL post comparing the two, I thought I'd try it myself. I...

    Using Megs D151 and Poli-Seal

Lately, I've been going through some Pro Detail and Click and Brag write-ups and I've noticed some people using Meguiar's D151 and Poli-Seal during details, then throwing an LSP over it. What exactly is the point of using these polish/sealants if you're going to use an LSP with it? Couldn't you...

    Trim dressing question-Please don't laugh!

I have a pretty simple question regarding applying trim dressing and tire dressing, and while there may be a simple answer, my simple mind hasn't gotten there yet. I know everyone has a different technique when it comes to detailing so maybe I'll get some different answers. Here goes: I...

Some more newbie questions headed your way

I have 2 simple questions that I can't find while doing a search. Maybe I just haven't found the right combo of words but nothing useful comes up. My first question is what is the best way to remove polish dust from paint and surrounding areas of a car during a detail? I got some dust on the...

    Relabeling Question-Safe to ask?

An interesting thing came to my attention earlier today when going through some of my dozens of bookmarked sites, namely identically named and descripted products from 2 different sites. Even a couple of pages on their home page menus were identical. I saw there was an old thread on relabeled...

Questions on Test Panels and Product Choices

I've got a couple of questions regarding test panels for polishing. My first question is when you guys do a test panel do you pick an average looking one to test a product and then go up in aggressiveness only as needed in certain areas or do you use a really rough spot for the test panel? I'm...

    Another noob polishing question

I've been playing around a bit w/ M105 and a PC XP on an old, abused 96 Civic before taking the polisher to my 2 newer cars. I'm having a bit of a dilemma though. I can't seem to get scratches completely out of the paint. The car is heavily oxidized and has TONS of scratches, some deep and some...

Free Meg Wheel Brightener in Charlotte NC

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, not trying to spam anyone, but I'm not getting any traction in the classified section. I'm GIVING AWAY an almost full bottle of Wheel Brightener sampler from ADS to anyone in the Charlotte area who is interested in it. For free. I just don't want or need it...

How can I tell what version of 105 I have?

This may sound like an odd question, but I bought a sample of M105 from ADS and it came in the old bottle along with a note saying that it was the new stuff but that they didn't have new labels for it yet. Now I've never used any kind of polish so I'm not sure what to expect, but this stuff...

What did I do wrong here?

This is my first try at machine polishing so I decided to do a test run on the hood of my clapped out civic. The whole car is pretty nasty, with tons of scratches and oxidized to hell and back. So my first try w/ a PC 7424XP, M105 and a CCS orange pad seemed to be going ok until I saw these...

    Foam guns not enough?

Recently, I've been seeing a lot of details where a foam gun was used prior to a 2 bucket wash. Just curious why a foam gun and clean wash mitt would require a second wash. From what I gathered from the AG car wash guide, you could use a foam gun as a presoak or stand-alone wash. Any reason why...

    Help w/Wheel Brightener Dilution

Ok, like an idiot I ordered ADS' sampler 32oz size of Meguiar's Wheel Brightener without doing a whole lot of research on it. Now that I've checked a little, I'm kind of regretting not going with something more gentle for my wheels. Here's my question though. It seems that at the 4:1 ratio...

M105 too much for a beginner?

Hello everyone, just a quick question for my first post. I'm just getting started into car detailing for my own vehicles and I'm looking at a PC7424 from AG to start with. I'm a little overwhelmed by all the choices but it seems like a lot of people are impressed with Megs 105 and 205 so I'm...
