Cerakote Professional Ceramic Paint Coating – Field Test Review

I recently put Cerakote Professional’s Ceranic paint coating through its paces on my multicoat red, and here’s how it shook out.

1. Surface Prep

  • Condition: Paint was in decent shape—minor swirl marks (DISO) and plenty of life scratches, especially on horizontal surfaces where abrasion tends to catch.
  • Application Weather: 59 degrees, 50% humidity.
  • Correction: Spent about 4 hours polishing with Turtle Wax One & Done (fantasic stuff), followed by two rounds of 91% isopropyl wipe-downs (ohh the paint pores...). Left the surface smooth and free of oils for optimal bond.

2. Application Process

  • Ease: Application is virtually identical to Opti–Seal, this stuff is goof proof.
  • Technique: Wipe on, spread evenly, then wait ~5 minutes for the coating to “sweat” micro-beads.
  • Cleanup: Wiped off effortlessly—very low tack and no hard-spots whatsoever, and I let some go 2x-3x the time recommended, still no issue.

3. Initial Finish & Feel

  • Slickness: Good at first, pretty incredible as it cures.
  • Depth & Color: Deepened the multicoat red; it has a subtle, saturated look without pushing into “saran-wrap” gloss territory.
  • Gloss Level: High, but not blinding. Strikes a sweet spot between outrageous custom paint and a deep carnauba finish.

4. Durability & Maintenance (Coming soon)

  • Dirt Release:
  • Washability:

5. Pros & Cons

+Ultra-slick, true ceramic feel
+Reasonable pricing, especially on sale.
+Easy application—just like popular spray sealants
+Noticeable color-enhancement on dark paints
=Gloss isn’t “mirror wrap” level (may disappoint flash-seekers)
-Not a "hard" coating, applicator remains soft.

6. Verdict

Cerakote’s Pro Ceramic coating delivers on its core promise: easy application and an immediately slick, color-rich finish. If you’re looking for a no-fuss way to upgrade gloss and hydrophobicity on an already well-preped paint, it’s hard to beat. Long-term durability remains to be seen, but for intitial findings, I’m impressed—and I’ll update this thread once I’ve put some time on it.

*For those wondering why this actually looks wordy and has details that my trademark posts usually lack... I had chatgpt interview me and write this review. I made a few minor tweaks, but it did great... and it looks pretty!

Not the greatest pics but at least a bit of a visual. I also did one fender with Mr. Fix as a control!
