how do you know when you have gone through the clear coat and is it possible to do so with a pc random orbit?? thanks

i am going to lowes later on tonight to pick up my porter cable and its going to be a early morning for me tomorrow weather is going to be 75 and sunny so i want mustang convert all done by 3-4 pm now is there anything i have to be cautious when using a pc ( random orbit) i want to do it...
