Has anyone used this product? Do you apply it when the engine is wet or do you have to dry it first?

I have not used tis product, but I think the resident tester (natty) has. I plan on trying Engine Kote soon.

Apply using a very fine mist. Meguiars recommends the regular or chemical resisant sprayheads from their line.

I've found it works best on a dry engine and yes, you do need a sprayer that is capable of producing a very fine, even mist. With an average or worse sprayer what happens is it blobs and if you're not quick to wipe those blobs they dry to a hard shell like stain and look like crap.

It is a very low gloss satin finish that is quite durable but to be honest, I'm through with Engine Kote. Too much of a hassle with the sprayer and God forbid you get overspray on a fender! Last time I used it it was a little windy and the oversrpay on my trucks fender was so hard I actually had to polish it off...clay wouldn't even do it.

Wayne...tell you what, send me your ship to addy and I'll gladly send you the 1/2 gallon I still have...just pay the shipping. I'd be happy enough just to free up the space in my cabinet.

Hmmmm..., That's what is on the fender I had to polish off...,
Next time I will cover all body parts.
Now I am wondering if it attracts dust...
Thanks Natty!!!

Natty,
What are you going to use in place of EK.

Eric

I don't do a lot of engine details. In fact, I've only done two in the past year for paying customers. Seems the majority of people could give a rats arse what their engine bay looks like.

Consequently most often when I do engine detailing its on my vehicles or a friends or family members. Last one I did was my wife's Taurus on which I used Poorboys Bold N Brite. Water based, if you get it on paint just wipe it off witha spritz of QD. Higher gloss than the EK and not a hard shell like finish but it still looks pretty darned good after about a month. Another nice thing about the Bold n Brite is it has a little cleaning ability to it. I've also used Meguiars W-Dressing (from their Detailer Line) and it works pretty darn good also though it takes a bit longer to dry and a wipe or two helps it along. W-Dressing is very economical espcially if you dilute it 1:1 (for low/almost matte finish).

As for dust attraction I think the EK was the best at not attracting a lot of dust. Probably a result of how it dries to a hard finish.

OK, looks like I'm adding the Bold & Brite to my list! Do you just mist it all over the engine compartment Natty?
