First time customers

While reading another thread, I started thinking what do the pros do for first time customers.

1. Complete ext/int detail before wash and wax service begins.
2. Whatever the customer wants because this pays the rent

Possible considerations as to what to offer:

1. Do some customers take a pro for a test drive to see quality of work.
2. Does this depend on the amount of money the customer is willing to spend.
3. Or the local area, economy and competition.

I am asking becasue the customers vehicle is a rolling business card and an unhappy customer will bad mouth your business faster than...

On the first time threw my shop I ask for the whole detail in and out. Most of the cars that I get have not been taken that good a care of, so the sell is easy.

I did a Corvette today that is a regular customer. I can get a away with a wash and hand glaze and wax once a month then every 3 months we go for the full job again.

I always suggest the whole detail, because like you said, most people don't take very good care and the cars do need some special attention. Now here is the trick - Most people like this don't like spending so much money for everything, so you have to tailor for what their car needs to get the price down to where they want it. Maybe cut down on your layers on the paint or something, just be sure to describe so they understand what the outcome will be.
Talk to the client, make them understand, they make the decision from your guidance, do a good job, throw in a freebee step - they will be back...
