Garage floor paint question...

I am already making plans for my garage. :naughty I am going to convert the back half into something that resembles as much as possible a real detail shop. One of the first orders of business is the floor. I want the black and white checker board on the floor, but I don't want those tile things. I just want to paint it all white and then mask it off and paint the black squares. My question is what kind of paint should I buy for this? Obviously it needs to be something other than your typical wall paint. Is there something special I should use? Advice would be greatly appreciated. Its my first garage that I actually get to tinker with. I am going to start sheetrocking the unfinished wall next week and wire speakers that go back to a receiver on the work bench. I can't wait to get this project on the road. I'll be sure to take pictures of the transformation. :bigups

Anthony I've got www.ucoatit.com and it's held up very well. Actually I'm ripping up my garage floor to put in a lift and the paint is not coming of the concrete. The concrete is breaking up and the paint is staying with it. I highly reccomend this product , but good surface prep is key.

"DO IT YOURSELF WITH U-COAT IT!" :lmfao I had my speakers on full blast. I jumped right out of my seat.

That looks like the best floor coating out there. Rustoleum makes an epoxy coating but I'm not sure it's better or as good as U Coat It. I'm actually in the market for a floor paint myself. I'll have to give that stuff some serious consideration.

do you have any pics of the floor before your ripped it up, we are looking for a house currently and the garage floor will be #1 on my list and have looked at u coat it as well, also any tips on the procedure ?

Hey, thanks Doug. That is some good info. I appreciate the tip. :bigups So would I just paint over that product I guess? I saw a floor in Maryland that had this stuff on it. It was pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind doing this to my entire garage floor. For the 'detail shop' half of it I want to do the checkerboard design.

Anthony , ucoat has a few different colors , white and black included. You could do just as you planned paint it all white first then layout the black tiles and as a final step coat it all with their AF-clear which resists common garage chemicals. If you need any other info or help just let me know.

A couple of others to research are PPG Aquapon (JimmyBuffit used in his shop) and Sherwin Williams Armour Seal or Tile Clad.

Good luck with building your Garage Mahal.

What are your plans for the garage?

Eric

I don't have any pictures right now. The family is still moving out and the garage is full of their crap. It was all I could do to clear out some space to start working on some other projects. They are being cool and letting us get some stuff moved over as they move out. That just makes the process go faster. ;)

I'll probably be bugging you again about this, Doug. I can't wait to get it figured out. :bigups

I'm real happy with the Aquapon 35 two-part epoxy from PPG, after 18 months.
Remember, it is all about the surface preparation! Sound familiar?

Jim

I'm looking to coat my garage floor too. This ucoatit looks exactly what I want. And there is a local distributer here in Detroit Rock City. Even better. It may be hard for me to clean out the garage for 2 days to apply, though.
