SSR 2.5 on Single Stage Paint

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
I've got a 67 Mustang coming up this weekend, its red and single stage apint. This car has been garaged and was repainted 10 years ago. You can see some oxadation but not much. I was thinking aobut using 2.5 yto cut the top layer with a rotary then SSR1 with the PC and tehn my more normal routine. I used the 2.5 on chrome yesterday and it looked great!!!

Is SSR2.5 normally safe for chrome. Maybe I am dreaming this (or I'm just an idiot...) but I thought I heard someone say to use ProPolish instead of 2.5 on chrome. Something about scratching it. Glad to hear it worked well for you Beemer. Good luck on the Stang.

There was a slight haze on the chrome and bits of rust, it cut right threw it and then I used polish. I do not have any PP left

All of the SSR products should be safe on single stage paints. With the exception of SSR 3, they are much milder than the compounds originally made for buffing lacquer and acrylic enamel paints. If it is really oxidized, you may need to start with a wool pad on the rotary.
Good Luck and get some pics ... red should be awesome when done!

Spoke to Steve said that the 2.5 would be to aggressive on the paint. Plan of attack is a straight polish with a rotary to cut the top layer. Then P-w-C with a PC polish pad, followed with a paste wax, by hand. This a garage queen has not been in any kind of weather other than sunshine for a afternoon drive. I will post pics of before and after if the light allows. I wil alos post pics of both cars which are going up on the for sale block, these two cars are great rides in super conditions for the years and weekend drivers and show cars for fun.
