Best way to dress TRUCK wheelwells?

wifehatescar

My L5-S1 is killing me!
Some of the trucks I have done lately have huge wheelwells with springs, rough spashguards, etc (not just a smooth plastic splashguard like a car). My usual couple sprays of ArmorAll and MF buff don't seem to work real well due to the textures in the wheelwell as well as the size of the area to be covered.

It seems like it would be easier to just spray a product all over in there and then walk away. AA will leave white runs so that is out (as well as BnB) Seems like a clear product is needed.

I played with MSLT but used like a 1/2 can for all 4 wheelwells.
Anyone have any good techniques/ideas?

Armor All Tire Foam has worked well for me in my wheelwells. Some poeple say that it collects dust, but I haven't had a problem with that. It leaves a nice clean and new look. It's also relatively cheap.

If you like the Stoners stuff you can buy it from them by the case, I'll bet after a steady rain you'll need to reapply.

It worked ok but 1/2 a can is $2 a pop!
This is just for customer cars, after a rain the wheelwell will prob be muddy anyway so I'm not concerned if the MSLT would still be looking great or not.

I guess I'm looking for a cheap clear dressing, I'll have to look in the auto store next time I go in.

Does anyone else get driven crazy by having to MF buff truck wheelwells? Seems like it takes me 10-15 minutes just to do that, a spray/walk away approach would only take 1-2 minutes.

I'm still an advocate for the acrylic floor shine stuff. I saw a generic version in a gallon for $6 at BJ Wholesale Club. You could try warehouse clubs like it for stuff like Black Magic in a half gallon or gallon size. TOL has some nicely priced dressings as well

I use Stoner's Trim Shine. I buy it in the 5 gallon jug (It's water-based in the jug). I just spray the wheel well down. Any white runs I see and easily reach, I wipe down. Other than that. I just leave them and they go away on their own.

I do this on customer vehicles and I do it on my own truck. Works great.

Look for P&S car care products on the net. THey shoudl have a local dist, for them around you. The product that I use is Shine All. Spray on and no wiping is necssary and is not oily at all. Its about the best and cheapest that I have used to date.
Any questions PM me

I've been using Eagle One Wet tire spray (it's clear). That is no longer available so I now use Meguiars Hot Shine Tire Spray (also clear). I just spray it on and walk away. It's 4.99 a bottle, but I can do about 10 vehicles with one bottle.

I just saw the EO stuff in Wal-Mart :dunno

Hey Bill D,
I'd like to know more about the floor shine wax you use. Sounds like it could be a good Idea especially for weekly customer washes after a detail with using the floor shine wax. When just a simple was of the whell wells will make them look great again. Too bad Megs is ending the engine Kote that hardens and would probably work well. I'm gonna have to run to the supply store think I still saw some last week.

My curiosity spraked about this topic of the acrylic floor shine cleaner when I read a post by HRP over on Autopia about using Mop & Glo. I asked him about the tip and he said he uses it with good results. Well, I compared the EK to M& G in 2 cups side by side and I saw they are very similar, the M&G smells lemony and has cleaning properites, other than that, they are very close. Once my EK is gone I'll try to find the cheapest form of a M&G type product, it must be acrylic though, I saw a floor cleaning product today by Lysol but its not acrylic, just a pure cleaner, I wouldn't use that. There's a nice post a few days ago on Autopia ; someone used M&G on his engine surfaces and it came out well! Seems like the way to go, especially for typical smooth plastic lined wheel wells, decent shine and a bit of durabilty like EK provided :bigups
