EX-P and Pad Cleanup

:wait ok someone (Steve, I need you on this one!) help me out. I used EX-P the other day and I applied it with one of the surbuf microfinger finishing pads (They are the best for applying protectents!). Now I can't seem to get the pad clean. I used my usual method, which is to soak and hand wash them in lake country's snappy pad cleaning powder with warm water. The pad has now dried but the fibers are VERY stiff and it still smells like EX-P (the pad smells great!). Any ideas on what type of cleaner or solvent I should use to disolve the remaining EX-P and get the pad clean again? The way it is now its pretty much unusable :(

Hey Soprano, have you tried to spray a degreaser on them yet? I've had great success on a daily basis using Greezed Lightning to break up sealants and waxes. Just make sure to rinse them clean before use again.

Good luck!

You could try a bucket of water (gallon or so) tablespoon or two of amonia. Let 'em soak an hour or two. Amonia is a great wax stripper, just don't use it full strength. I use this on my wax removal towels and it works very well. Haven't tried a pad before, but it should work the same.

Looks like it cured to your pad :lol

I had this problem when I used to use NXT on my pads...

I sprayed them down with Simple Green (full strength) then filled a bucket up with warm water, some dawn, and some distilled white vinegar. Let it soak, yucky side down, for 30 minutes then rinse out. That will most likely work.

Good Luck!

Another vote for simple green as a pad cleaner. I pour a cup of simple green into a gallon pail and fill with fairly warm water. Let them soak for 15 minutes then kneed the foam while submerged in the simple green solution. Rinse under warm water and wring them out. About the only thing this method hasn't been able to completely remove from a pad was SSR1 (the pink stuff) and Cherry Wet Wax (also pink) and that was from a white pad. Even though the products left a stain on the pads they were clean of residue/product.

I soak my pads in a bucket (or the kitchen sink) with Dawn and Murphy's oil soap. It did a good job of cleaning them after the detail day. I had three of four pads that were black from that 37 we worked on.

Same here, I start with dawn and then move to MOS.

I would think a pressure washer would wear the foam out quicker, I never do that. But thanks to everyone for their tips. Today I soaked my EX-P caked on pad in simple green, then sprayed it with greased lightning, then sprayed it with murphy's. I rinsed it out real good and now its CLEAN!!! Thanks again for the advice, worked like a charm!
