Smoke Flim On Cars From A Fire

Just One More Coat
I buddy of mine has 7 vintage cars that where in a farily nice warehouse on the back siden of his house. Last weekend some kids playing with fire works caught the hill side on fire of which is all real dry grass. The fire came with in inches of his house but the fire department got in under control and he only lost some tress and all his automatic springlers system. During the fire they had a tanker fly over with fire retarden and some went thew the sun lights and got a few cars.
The fire restoration guy came out to look at the warehouse the cars inside of a fine layer of smoke on all of them making it worst most all of them had ther windows open.
The insurance company is going to cover everything. He has told them that I wil be doing all the work.
Now for the question.

How many of you have done insurance work and how should I price the cars?
Thanks

That's gonna be a pretty big job. Congrats if you can do it!

I'm not sure how much I'd charge but it would probably be at least $200 a vehicle for the one with windows open. That smoke dust, etc. probably got everywhere inside. You're going to want to take your time on vintage cars. Make sure your chemicals aren't too strong either for the material you're working on too.

Just knowing the way insurance companies opperate you might want to up your price a little bit!

Also I know that they make special deoderizers and such for houses that have had partial fires you may want to look into that for the interiors. Even if the windows were closed on the vehicals chances are pretty good that there was some seepage!

I would also document your processes I would take pictures of every thing!! If there is some damage that can not be fixed with a detail and needs replacing you don't want to be the one responsible for it!

Your friend should also look into getting the interior of his garage re-painted ....with a paint product for fire/smoke damage it will help rid the garage of the Smokey smell! (you don't want a freshly cleaned car to pick up any oders!

He also may want to replace any filters that may be exposed (ie: air filters ...)

We are thinking in the range of 400 plus each car.
54 Buick
68 mustang
68 Camaro
48 2 ton truck
99 corbra stang
74 mustang
58 MGA

All cars are in reall good condidtion the 68 stang was a car that was in the movie bulett

They must be pretty bad for $400 a car. I sent you a PM earlier, not sure if you got it. Had some info in it.

Good luck with this job and be sure to keep us posted what happens. Could help out other detailers in the future.

INSURANCE COMPANIES = KACHING KACHING $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

$400/car will be cheap for these guys, considering the alternative of their replacement cost, they are getting off easy.

Good luck!

I did a wipe down with S&W this morning and the insurance company wants me ot put together my pricing. The cars are really not that bad but these guys think nothing of 400 bucks a car. I should do well with these.
The restoration guy and I hit it off and he says that he will use me on futher jobs and that's a good thing.

I will have pics here of all the cars soon with the details about them

Thanks for the help
