Coating overload!! Which one???

Alright guys/gals I have been going back and forth as to weather or not to coat my GTO. I just did a full wet sand and buff on it last week and finished it off with a coat of Victoria Red Wax and a coat of Megs ultimate paste wax. See thread below

http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums...805-started-my-wetsanded-buffing-project.html

I really like the idea of a coating that offers mar resistance along with great water sheeting ability as this is my daily driver. I really like the CQuartz Finest but seeing as I would need a licensed installer to do it and after receiving expensive quotes I am passing on that. I was looking at CQuartz UK, Black Label, DP to name a few. I haven't been impressed with the Opti 2.0 from what I have heard from good friends. I also like what the new Pinnacle Synergy has to offer. Seems like a great product.

Now here is my other issue. I like to wax my car and polish it. I know with a coating that it really won't need polishing anymore but what about topping with a wax after doing my weekly wash? Or am I limited to just washing and a quick detailer?

I am getting overloaded with all the new coatings and different ways to apply them. Any help with this would great seeing since the car has been corrected already doing a coating now would be fairly easy.

I have used BL DSC (Surface coating), CQ Org, CQUK, OC.

The BLDSC is nice, but it is way to early to tell on durability.

CQ org lasted me 2+ years and I loved the look and beading / sheeting. I also did a long term review on it.

I currently have CQUK on the same car and like it just as much as CQ org. It was easier to apply and work with. The beading / sheeting are good and I figure it will last at least a 1.5yr+.

I have OC Pro on my truck that sits outside 24/7. I like it a lot mostly for the durable protection. IMO OC is more for the durability and not wanting to re-do it every 2 years.

The reality is you "can" wax over any coating you wish. But you then are covering up the properties of the coating and the reason t you applied it. No coating is a scratch / marring eliminating thing. You will get them over time, it just is what it is. They do help to greatly reduce any problems.

When using a coating I stick with product and are made to work with them and enhance what they do. ReLoad, Permanon, Hydro2, etc...

This is my opinion but if you want to wax "weekly" you are better off sticking with a sealant and wax combo to keep things fresh and give you the option of changing.

Thank you for the replies on here and AG.

If I was going to pick one today it would depend on the way the car gets used. For max Mar resistance, I would go with OPTI_COAT 2.0 knowing I will give up some of the super slickness and tight beads.

On my DD I chose EXO v2 and would do it again.

I would like to tell you that I have no experience with CQ UK but Troy is someone here whose opinion I value enough to want to try this coating.

I can help you compare and contrast the OC 2.0 and the EXO v2 pretty well. I will most likely pull the trigger on some CQUK just to feel like I did not miss out on a great product. I love slick paint w/tight beads.

I sure would like to see some giant comparison tables of the coatings, etc.

KISS.... Keep It Simple Simon...

If you want the protection of a coating put love to wax, go with the Black Label Surface Coating (do your wheels, glass and paint in one shot) then maintain the paint with a top up of Synergy as needed. Not only does this give you the best of both worlds, but (in my opinion) the combo of both creates a dripping-wet, high-energy shine unlike any other in the coating world thus far.

Would durability still be about 1-2 years? Sounds interesting.

Thank you for the response. I have a can of synergy on the way along with the Diamond cleansing polish. Going to give this a shot and see how it works. I think the wifey will get a little pissed if I go and buy the DSC after just spending money on this:D Maybe in another month or 2 I will buy the DSC and do like you say!

I have the surface coating on my wife's Carmy and love the look it has once topped with a wax to bring out some depth to the gloss.

I'm planning to get OC Pro and it looks like this would be best for me because of the durability. This is my commuter car and it's parked outside as well. As far as not having to re-do it every 2 years, is this something you think someone would have to re-do maybe ever 5 years? I really am curious how long OC Pro lasts, especially me having a black car I always want a great coat!

I ended up winning the CQUK kit from here on a contest. So I used that and topped it off with Synergy and it has lasted well so far.

Any coating is going to look as good as the paint is was applied to. My personal favorite coatings, from an aesthetic stand point are Black Label Surface/Paint Coating, CQ UK and Gtechniq Exo.

From a protection stand point, all do an admirable job.

From an application stand point, Black Label Surface Coating, DP Paint Coating, Optimum Opti-Coat and Duragloss Enviroshield are all extremely easy to apply.

From a duarbility stand paint Optimum is reported to last as long as the paint itself and I have seen it still working past 3 years.

OC Pro is claimed and seems to be lasting 3, 4, 5+ years. Based on the current data and the claims of Opti have no reason to doubt that OCP could last “forever” / 10+ years. (Basically the life of a paint system)

My comment about not re-doing it every 2 years is based on the fact that most other "coatings" are claiming and having approx 2yr +/- life span before they need to be redone. Most of these other coatings will wear away in that time very similar to how a wax wears off over a few weeks / months. Only these coatings do it over a much longer time period.

The other thing to consider is that even with the best wash technique and setup the chances are that over time you will get some marring or swirls. With most all of the coatings this will be very minor and not bad enough to need / want to redo it for a few years. With OCP since it is an additional layer on your paint the chances are that all of your swirls & marring are in the coating, so as you polish it away you are removing coating not paint. Once it is clear again you can simply add a little more OCP to protect your investment. This would hopefully take your yearly full exterior detail down to once every few years at most.

I'm interested in the Pinnacle paint coating. However, some of the reviews haven't been great. I'm not saying it's not great - I've never tired it - I'm just going by what I've read and videos on You Tube.

So, I'm sure it looks great. But, how does it handle water compared to OC or CQ? Anyone with some durability time with this coating yet?

The one guy on AG with the Tesla didn't seem to get a whole winter out of it. Now, this could be user error - dunno.

Which is tougher, the paint coating or the surface coating from Pinnacle (on paint)?

I've been using a Subaru Forester for durability test and it's been 181 days so far and the coating is still on there looking great. I've been meaning to post an update. Will do asap.
