Clean and polish exhaust tips - advice please

This is an area I've never really done as I've never had BIG tips. Mounted quad 4" units yesterday. On a big car, they look FANTASTIC:

and wonder what everyone is using....I ordered this as a test - any one used it?

I am not looking for bling, bling shine, I am more looking for a sealant that will allow soot and engine gasses to be wiped off easily

What say the experts?

P21s polish soap is great if you stay on top of cleaning them up.

Once they are clean I reach for BF Metal Sealant. It is one to the best options IMO...
It is what I use on my exhaust tips as well as wheels that are not coating with OC.

I am curious about this too. I actually need to polish mine up a bit from some water spots and swirls. This if for a 2013 Accord which are some kind of chrome plated metal...maybe aluminum? If anyone has products/process for starting with a clean-up, then maintenance, please post. Sorry Glen, hope I am not hijacking your thread here.

I've never seen anything including OC that makes those easy to clean. Best advice is clean them regularly before they ever get bad.

After cleaning exhaust tips with P21S polishing soap, can I use Opti-Seal or any other WOWA product to seal them or does it have to be a metal sealant?

You can use any sealant you want, and I have.

The reason I use BF Metal Sealant is that it is made to withstand the high temps. So it should last longer than a standard sealant. My only wish is that it would come in a smaller 4oz - 8oz bottle. My current bottle will be enough to last me a lifetime.

What do you guys recommend for severely neglected tips? I tried OPC straight up as well as P21S polish soap and it did not touch it. I bought some 0000 steel wool but have been scared to use it yet.

Ive got APC+, Zap Citrus Degreaser that I have not tried yet on them.

For cleaning tips good old never dull has worked great for me for ages. Never bothered to try other things now that I think of it. Used it, it worked, stuck with it.

Same here, I only need it for my one car that has a Borla exhaust with some monster size tips on it that hardly ever gets driven so 4oz would last me years. No idea what I'd do with a giant bottle of that stuff, which isn't all that cheap.

Anyone know of any other stainless sealants in smaller sizes?

I went on the Borla website and they have a video of the exhaust polish and guy uses "fine" brass wool. The tips came out pretty good. So the polish that Glen bought and some fine brass wool might be a good place to start. BF fine metal polish might be another option.

Depending on how they look (Pic would help) it could be back on and too far gone.

But here is what I would try in order of aggression.

P21S polish soap
Collinite Metal Wax + 0000 Steel wool
Light Aluminum Polish (OTC Mothers / BF Fine Cut Aluminum Polish)
Car Polish (M205, M105)
Heavy Aluminum Polish (BF Heavy Cut Aluminum Polish)

Megs now has a 3 step polishing system as well. That might be the way to go.

I have used 0000 steel wool many times without any problems Don't worry about trying it.

Thanks for the reply. Audi exhaust, pain x2. I will try the 0000 wool with p21s and see how it goes. Might try some Megs UP or SF4000 I guess.

That looks like a ton of fun.... Lol.

I really want to try the BF metal polish kit. I keep hearing good things, but it's so hard to spend $150 on metal polish.

Man, I think I might opt for new tips on this guy. You get those clean and you will be a hero. Look forward to hearing back on your luck and what products you used.

Ones that bad Ive had success using 1000 grit sandpaper and lots of soapy water when nothing else would work including even 000 steel wool.
