New Microfiber...

Is there a need to wash new microfiber towels before using them? (all of them are of high quality and their care instructions don't mention washing before using, but I remember some people saying it was important).

if so, is hand washing (with blue Dawn) and a good rinsing followed by air drying as good as machine washings?
Thanks!

Is it needed? :dunno
Is it important? :dunno
Do I do it? Yes.
It seems to be standard procedure for most of us to wash them before the first use.

Most likely not. It's pretty hard to do as good of a job handwashing as a machine will do.

It's recommended to wash prior to use....I think. But.....I don't do it.

I soak my mf's in Dawn, do a little hand washing, rinse good, put'm in the machine by themselves with liquid Tide or ERA, air dry and they're as happy as little clams.

I always was new MF towels before use in case there is any residual material from tha manufacturing process.

I never wash them first....I shake them out well and go to work....after selling quality mf towels at car shows for years, I learned quickly that some people don't have the luxury of washing them first and the towel better perform immediately for the user at the show. First bad sign to me is one that lints...then you have to wash first and then again....

Always wash any new towel before use... even bath towels for your family. Here's why:
During the manufacture of the yarn certain sizing is put in to control fraying
During weaving or knitting the fabric picks up stray metal particles from the machinery
During weaving or knitting the fabric picks up stray oils from the machinery
During sewing the fabirc picks up oils from the machines
During sewing the fabric picks up stray particles and lint from the air
During sewing and packing many itmes get dropped on dirty floors and pick up all sorts of crap (I once had a lot come through with plastic sequins stuck to the goods)
And of course during all this people handle the goods and we are not the cleanest critters on the planet are we now?

Do you really want all these chemicals, dirt, oils, and who knows what making contact woith your car or your body after a shower?

Better to be safe than sorry, wash first!

I don't wash mine before using and I haven't had any problems. However the Mullet Awesome Polishing towel did lint some prior to washing. It is a great towel but better after a wash.

interesting but I have inspected thousands of mf towels since their inception to the car care market, have never seen any oils or metal pieces , that would never come out of a mf cloth by washing if it got in, and have seen people use brand new ones at car shows on 50-60k worth of paint alone.
Shake them, inspect them carefully, but washing is NOT needed but is also not a bad thing to do.

ALso talking to someone today:rolleyes: we used a comparison to clothing...do you or don't you wash everything before wearing it:dunno I don't:D

I don't mind risking it and not washing a new bath towel before first use ;) , but because just due to my detailing OCD, when it comes to mfs, its a different story :bigups
