I don't know how everybody keeps it straight but I know for me I basically only know the numbers of the products I use or read about often, that's why I could post the list so quick, I use it for reference myself
 
I've always wondered why the numbers skip around so much. You woudl think they would take all products and order them in the # they were to be done as if you were detailing your car.
 
When I began detailing, meguiars and 3M were all that I could find locally(pre-internet here). I guess I just picked up the number system then.
