I'm Just Amazed

That there are so many sports today that are under fire for illegal use of performance drugs.

Today I read that the US bicycling team Astana that holds the first and third winners from last year Tour de France are not being allowed to ride in this years tour....siting that some of the riders had passed questionable test results, and that the sponsor had a spotty practice habits in previous races. This is a brand new team....The riders on this team have all test negative to EPO but yet are not being allowed to ride....for me the tour de France has become nothing more than a witch hunt..IMO

One would also think that Congress would have just a tad more to do than hunt down one of the best baseball players in the game, to charge him with use of growth hormones.

It certainly takes away from the fun in watching the games if you ask me....I for one will not be watching the tour this year, if the US team is not allowed to ride....as the coach of the team said, he thinks the french are getting tired of getting beat by the US riders:D

Sorry for the rant it just make me mad at all the press these sandals get, in a country where people are loosing their houses because of bad loan practices, we have a war with no way out any time soon, and an economy that is slipping into a recession

Hello Congress...the US is calling:wall

Yeah, it worries me that out of all the problems we have going on, Congress has the time to deal with baseball steroids and football tapings. Sheez.....

That's too funny. I don't follow sports all that much and happened to see congress on the news yesterday with the baseball thing. I was so mad. I was thinking the same thing, Don't they have something more important to do. Baseball is a private industry right? I don't understand what congress has to do with it. I guess maybe since the players are role models?!

The committee that is investigating the steriod problem in sport is involved in the drug programs of the United States. They are the ones that direct the policies for the laws that we live by. That is what they say is why they are doing it. Don't think for a minute that they are doing it because it is good for the country though. It is good for their agenda and nothing else as far as I am concerned

Involved yes, but the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is just that... a federal watchdog, itself not directly responsible for policy or implementation. Sadly there's a huge and very political disconnect there. These hearings are more circus act then anything else, although if one is stupid enough to lie to the feds under oath the game becomes a bit more serious.....

Shhhhhh...if we can keep them busy with Clemens, maybe they'll have less time to screw up the important things.:D

Is it just me or did Clemens come off as a big
L-I-A-R in yesterday's hearing?

It was hard in some cases to tell who was the better liar...but I agree with e-class you lie to the feds under oath and it changes everything...just ask Martha Stewart:D

I often thought about this myself...we have soldiers dying in Iraq, we have an economy that is going no where we have pissed off Russia with our Eastern European Missle silos and yet we have the time to spend months on something Major league sports should be policing on their own.

I guess I understand the baseball on to a point, we want to make sure that our kids who look up to alot of these players don't follow their path and descion making. Although I believe the road to understanding whats right and wrong starts at home. But the Football tapings, are you serious...

Sports BS - 1 US Security - 0
I'm so glad they have their priorites in order:crazy2::surrender:passout:

maybe they should step up and make government a "drug-free" zone... 'cause moreoften than not their actions are exactly like those of an addict!!

Involving Congress in baseball scandalls is a joke. It's a game. Yes, certain people feel like they need an edge and will do anything to get it, but the sports' authorities should be the ones dealing with it.

AB as some one said they need to police themselves not involve our tax payers money in this.

I'll agree that Congress' involvement is somehwhat suspect, but baseball at this level (pro football, not difference) is not a game. Rather it is business, and BIG business at that, generating 100s of millions if not billions of dollars in revenues each year. Businesses of that size can come under government scrutiny. Though again, I'm not sure why or how Congress managed to select this specific aspect of the business to examine.

I'm sick of hearing about the steroid thing too. I will say this though...I think Sean Sherk (UFC fighter) got screwed. I honestly believe that he didnt knowingly use them.

blahblahblah to all of it. screw these rich ballplayers. it's not about the money, yeah right. bring back the GAME of baseball. the world is going to s--t. listen for the flushing sound in a neighborhood near you.

This is such an incredible WASTE OF TIME for Congress !!! I agree that their involvement is simply ridiculous.

As for kids looking up to these athletes, thats all fine and good, but I think parents should tell their children that these athletes are human just like you and I. Let them know that they put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else.

As for performance enhancing drugs. I believe the recent findings are just the tip of the iceberg. If I put myself on the place of a professional athlete with millions of dollars on the line based upon my making and remaining on a team, I would be hard pressed not try to keep an advantage on my competion no matter what the cost. Yeah their are health risks in the use of performance enhancing drugs but the are also significant health risks associated with drinking, smoking, and overeating, but most of us are guilty of some of these risks without any financial benefits. I believe many people pass judgement on these athletes without really thinking about their risks versus rewards.

Is living the lifestyle you can only dream of, and giving your wife and children anything they could ever want. And possibly never having to worry financially for the rest of your life worth the risk of taking performance enhancing drugs?

Tough question?

Case in point:

Major league baseball minimum salary = $390000

If you don't make it = :swirly:
