If you like the 1st NXT pics......

Darth Camaro 12/27/15
Today we had and unseasonally warm day (76*!!!!) So of course I had to break out the PC and some NXT.

During the rinse, I noticed that if I hit the car with a hard stream, the water beaded like crazy. If I flooded the surface, the water sheeted off VERY quickly. (It has been a bit over a week since I first applied the NXT and it has rained nearly every day).

Since last talking to Mike, I decided to use a Lake Country polishing pad instead of the finishing pad I'd used before. I was a bit more liberal with the #34 keeping the pad lubricated. I used less NXT than before, but in several areas I was getting the "first pass product on the car, 2nd pass product gone again" phenomenon. I also kicked the PC up to '4' this time.

Like I did last week, I applied a coat of NXT to the entire car allowed it to cure for 1/2 hour, buffed it off and applied a 2nd coat and allowed it to cure for a couple of hours then buffed it off.

That is where the question "2 coats or 4" comes from. I know common wisdom says "2" the second coat being applied so soon after the first only ensured complete coverage.

Whatever the case may be, the results are nothing short of incredible. I'll let them speak for themselves:

Incredible results

Looking good!

Why is the polishing pad better than the finishing pad?

Fantastic results Don. I have seen the same thing when applying NXT via PC.

Boss, I think the extra bite of the polishing pad really helps to remove that last 5% of swirls. Maybe because it works the product into the paint better darkening the color that much more, thus better hiding the swirls. Just a guess.

Beats me...but I figured since Mike P has more experience than anyone with NXT and he uses one........

Thanks EBP................ makes sense! Have you tried removing the NXT with the PC & Ultimate bonnet?

Hey,

You can apply NXT with the W-9006 Finishing Pad without a problem. I have been doing that since Nov./Dec. with the Lab Sample E and now with the formal version, NXT. The pad choice is more of a personal preference. Mike even likes to use the #82 Swirl Free Polish with the W-8006 Polishing pad where I prefer the W-9006 Finishing Pad. Again, more of a choice. NXT is not an aggressive product. If you have swirls to be removed, use #82 Swirl Free Polish, before applying the NXT Tech Wax.

For removal, use a MF bonnet over a W-8006 pad. The stiffness of the pad helps in the removal of product.

I sure haven't Boss. I have never tried the ultimate bonnets as I still prefer removal by hand. From what Mike says, I should probably look into it.

Then again, I could always try the CharlesW approach with the PC and a MF.

EBP,

I have a couple bonnets on the way............. I'll let you know my thoughts. I'll try Tim's recommendations of using the polishing pad with the bonnet for removal.

I don't understand why your adding #34 to NXT .. in essense your altering the NXT formula. Thus altering possibly how it is going to cure or perform. I have posed this question to Mike and he doesn't disagree.

I also prime my pad with #34 FI before applying NXT without any problem. I also qd my car with FD right after buffing the residue from nxt and have not had any problem with bonding or curing. After qd'ng with the FD, IMO it looks even better. I think that QD'ing after buffing will remove any smearing or residue (if there are any) left and bring out the every bit of last shine on my black finish.

Tell me how you know? Can you see it bonding or not?

because it's been couple weeks since i applied nxt. I've already washed my car once and its noticeable nxt is still there. I don't have anything else under nxt but menzerna final polish. Water just runs off the finish after washing and rinsing and the finish still feel slick rather than squeaky clean that FP leaves. It may affect its durability but as far as bonding, there's no sign of bonding issues with the nxt and FD.

Hey,

It is recommended that nothing touch the finish for 24 hours after the application of NXT. This incudes water, QD's etc. The synthectic polymers do need time to set up properly.

Tim

I understand what your saying about polymers need to set up properly before using qd's or antything else. It's just with nxt it doesn't seem to affect its curing or bonding to paint when qd'ed right after.
