Carnauba for silver

Hello All,
I have an old silver beemer and I`m looking for some suggestions for a Carnauba wax. I`m interested in the Natty`s red, but when I do a specific search on it, I get a re-direct.

Would it be ok on silver paint or is there something better for silver? I`ve seen plenty of recommendations around the $30 price point and so I`d like to not go over that.

My Optimum Poli seal went bad sitting on the shelf, so I had some Dura Gloss sitting around and have already done a complete polish with it and then went over that with Opti Seal. So I just want to finish it all off with a carnauba.

What do you guys like for silver? It`s about a 30 year old paint job.

WELL. for a `73 BMW 2002 "daily driver" (I guess in the Pacific Northwest you can get away with that!), I would highly suggest Collinite 915 wax. A little over-budget (about $38.00 for a 12 oz. tin) for your application, BUT, it offers the best of both worlds: 1) Longevity and some protection with 2) a great carnauba shine.
I know others will suggest Finish Kare`s FK1000P Hi-Temp wax for about half the price of Collinite, but it`s a hybrid wax/sealant. I have not used this wax, but a lot of other Autopians have and like it`s shine and longevity.

I would suggest you talk to someone at Poorboy`s what they would suggest. They have value-priced products that are highly acclaimed (IE, used a lot and recommended) within this forum.

It`s obviously been a while since I`ve been around here. I had to update my signature. The 73 2002 has since been retired to garage queen status just to preserve it and the Dodge cummins truck gave way to a ford van with a 4x4 conversion. If the 2002 was still a DD I just wouldn`t bother with the carnauba. But it stays pretty protected and out of the elements in the garage.

If I use the White Diamond, is it ok to put it on top of the Optimum-Seal?
 
Being a silver car that`s already shiny. Weight diamond should do awesome unless you want a shade darker then use Poorboy`s black hole and you`ll still get the shine

you could if you want but it would go better under it...if you put it on top of opti-seal and don`t do anything else the oils will evaporate in a day or two

So throw some white diamond over the optiseal, then nattys red

Get new sun glasses

Regulars here know that I`ll knee-jerk to FK1000P (yeah, even on that paint), but if you want a more Carnauba-type wax I`d go with something from Collinite.

But then ya just never know what somebody else will prefer; my wife always loved Pinnacle Souveran on silver, even though it offers zilch for protection/durability.

Thanks for that. I may ponny up.

I took Lonnie`s advice and contacted Poorboys. They recommended not using Nattys Red on 30 year old paint as it might stain. They recommended the original paste wax.

One more question .. What type of paint was used when it was last painted 30 years ago?

Hey, that`s a good Q...and FWIW, IMO "30 YO paint" isn`t all *that* old. I mean..my Jag`s older than that and even when new it was painted with unusually old-school stuff compared to most contemporary vehicles.

Oh, and that "beware of staining" is good advice, especially when the type of paint hasn`t been specified.

ok, then I`ll assume you have polished over the years ... did you ever see color come off while polishing or only dirt?

then let`s assume that it has an early version of clear coat or might even have Imron which was popular about 30 years ago.

Lacquer and Enamels would definitely give back some color as they oxidize .. Synthetics might, depending on the quality.

You can use the Natty`s Red if you want higher gloss and I`d definitely use the Black Hole if you want to see more depth, but you do lose a little metal flake. Without the color transfer during polishing I`d doubt that your paint is porous.

Well, I`ve already ordered the White Diamond and the Original white wax. Suppose to be here next week. Look forwarding to geeking out on it.

If I use the White Diamond with an orbital and a finishing pad, will it cut through the Opti-Seal layer or just lay down on top?
