Better than armorall?

Along those lines, I googled si02 just to become familiar, and one site said it`s used to coat lenses because it lets UV rays pass through so well while providing a protective film from other elements.

You guys think there is really much difference aside from the level of shine in the water based dressing market?

How many different ways do you think a milky white dressing can be made?

They all behave exactly the same, when it rains they wash off. So why is one better then the other?

I do, in both level of shine, as well as how they behave.

For instance, Megs All Season Dressing, Hyper Dressing, CarPro PERL, Optimum Opti-Bond... they are all water based, are they not? Also have (and use) Blackfire, and DP tire gel, which I think are also water based. I prefer Optimum on my own vehicles btw because it looks good, (not too shiny) and lasts and lasts and lasts. ;)

I`ve seen PERL streak like crazy on trim that got wet later, especially hard trim. Yet if it were allowed to dry for a few days AT LEAST it tends to hold up better. I did a test years ago where I sprayed a tire with 3:1, 1:1, and `straight`. You could see the 3:1 section had `something` on it, just not a lot to it, but it give it an ever so present look of something more than bare rubber. Then the 1:1 section had a CLEAR sheen to it, and much more `sealed` look. Moving to the `straight` section, (for me at least) it just seemed to be too much of a good thing. Thing is... once dried... they all had this very definite seal/almost crust to them. Of course 3:1 it was just barely there, but there none-the-less, where by the time it was straight it was darned near crunchy.

I`ve used (PERL) it to restore a dry and brittle looking vinyl tonneau cover (hard cover, soft vinyl over aluminum that rolls up at the front of the bed) for a customer twice now. For him, it lasts all winter and he`s never complained. First time I did it, the truck was 4 years old and had NEVER HAD ANYTHING put on it! It DID tend to seal the pores of that dried out vinyl, when mixed 2:1, and especially @ 1:1.

I`ve been overly hesitant. But will throw this out in the open here.
There is a guy named Darren Priest. Has youtube videos. I like him. He`s real honest.
He likes to use Meguiar`s Synthetic X-press wax (spray on), on the interior.
I tried it. I really like it. Inside as well as out as a maintainer. Am impressed how easily a cheap microfiber towel can grab the dust off my interior now. I like how it leaves my interior also.
He has youtubes on this.
Please don`t hit me too hard. Just being honest.

Yes, I do remember using AA years ago. How it`s addicting. The dash will crack if you stop using it. I won`t use it again because of that.

Do you have a favorite, for the various situations? Perhaps something for dashboards, something for vinyl, something for the door panels and back seat plastics and trim... etc etc. So I`d like to hear your answer on that, and I`d also like to hear which one you`d pick if you had to do a cloth-seat interior, with only one product. IE, one product for the dash, door panels, rear plastics, center console, everything.

I`m probably not the best guy to ask about interiors as I hardly do *anything* with mine other than keep them clean! I`ve almost completely given up on (what I jokingly call) the Slime Approach (i.e., dressings/protectants) in favor of Interior QDs (both Meguiar`s and 1Z).

Next time I really *detail* an interior that could use some kind of dressing/protectant I think I`ll try either Pinnacle Black Label or Wolfgang. But I`m in no hurry to do that. Previously, my fave was from AutoGlym, which I liked better than 303, Griot`s, Pinnacle, and Meguiars (forget the pn, used two different ones..), and undoubtedly some others I`m not thinking of. But once I started using the IQDs I was quickly won over to *just* using those.

So I basically just use the Interior QDs on *everything*, just as you were wondering :D I typically use Meguiar`s on the American vehicles and 1Z Cockpit Premium on the German ones (Jag still in storage..). A quick going-over after each maintenance wash is all it takes.

I like the Wolfgang Cockpit Sealant about once a year and the rest of the time I use the 1Z Cockpit Premium. Nice matte look but clean. Occasionally I will wipe the dash with a microfiber with a spray of the the GDIUDJ.

Armor All has long since changed its formula from the dash cracking product.

Well I really didn`t want to say what I was going to use it on, because I wanted the broad spectrum of answers. Its for my vinyl seating in my pontoon boat. Looks like 303 is what I want. However, I wanted the answers for auto detailing as well, so I just didn`t mention the boat. I really don`t think its a pointless question, for two reasons. 1, the armor all is clearly not the way to go. Its been far outstripped by things that don`t seem to do any harm to the interior over time. 2. The answer could actually be proven, through scientific testing, also new technology does become available.

Since you mentioned your pontoon boat, take a look at the Marine 31 line of products. They have a vinyl cleaner and a protectant just for that. Been using it on my boat and a few others for the last couple years and really like it.

Aerospace 303 is a good product as well, although I don`t particularly care for the smell, so I`ve kind of migrated away from it on car interiors

I`m a fan of 1Z as well. Clean look, clean smell. Of course I`ve got WG Cockpit Sealant too but GOOD GOD doesn`t it smell exactly like the exterior trim sealant?!?! Even smells like the old formula UTTG+ (which was/is STILL an awesome trim sealant). ;)

I mean it works... but you really need to have the vehicle long enough to air it out overnight with the windows down or you`ll end up with one ticked off soccer mom!
Heck, my dad had a woman threaten to sue him over her daughter being in a car that my brother flipped (low speed, ran up a guide wire and flipped over at maybe 3 mph) then she was "forced to breath poisonous gas fumes". I chit you not.... she was going to sue him because of gas fumes! Had to get a doctor to state on the record she didn`t have brain damage, and could still bear children without defects. Maybe the MOTHER had brain damage!

I googled most of those you mentioned but some of them I guess you`re using abbrieviations for? :D

Interior QDs I couldn`t really find. As for the 1Z, I assume you`re talking about this?

1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner , dashboard cleaner, cockpit cleaner, 1Z einsett, einzett

Check out the interior category here on Autopia and you`ll find a good chunk of what`s been mentioned in this thread. A lot of people use abbreviations for products since they like to give them names that are way too long.

303 just because of the results I get from it. A dark matte sheen. Looks great, lasts a long time and doesn`t attract dust. I`ll never use anything else.

Huh, surprised you didn`t find anything when searching on "Interior Quick Detailers", but I use the one from Meguiar`s that`s available OTC. Quick Interior Detailer, Interior Quick Detailer...something like that.

I didn`t mean to be inscrutable, if there`s anything specific that`s unclear just ask about it and I`ll try to clarify.

Yes, that *is* the correct 1Z product. For me that would cover most bases just fine.

I`ve been using Wolfgang Rubber and Vinyl Protectant since it came out and I prefer it to my old favorite 303. The Wolfgang product leaves a matte finish and lasts months. I notice it more on my wife`s car because I don`t clean it often and every time I get in the car I always think "damn, that stuff still looks good", and that is after months. It is supposed to have UV blockers too. Who knows?

I`ll give the Wolfgang a try at some point.

As for the 303, just to be clear, yall are talking about this one, right?

303 Automotive Protectant

And NOT the aircraft protectant. Which you can buy at autozone. Or maybe, just maybe, its the same stuff.

bennylava- IMO, for what I think you`re trying to accomplish, it`d be easy to overdo/overthink/overspend on Tire Dressing. I`d find something that`s OK (if not The Last Word In Perfect Product) and priced well in gallon jugs.

I use diluted Meg`s APC or diluted Optimum Power Clean for general cleaning. Then I use 303 Aerospace Protectant to protect it. Solid stuff with best bang for the buck! I recently got Wolfgang`s Vinyl & Rubber Protectant on a BOGO price-match and loving it though! $34 for a whole gallon of it!

I used to use the 303 aerospace protectant and frankly it leaves a dry and grey look to all my plastics... and so i stopped using it... (Was on my old summer car not on the vette but regardless i dont wana use something that makes the plastics grey or dry looking...)
