Thoughts and Prayers for the victims and Families in Orlando

Seems like if we`re so concerned with saving lives, bringing back Prohibition would save many many times more lives. Should probably start there right?

The FBI’s
report for violent crime in 2014 revealed that only 248 people were killed from any form of rifle including rifles in the AR-15 platform.

"Alcohol is killing Americans at a rate not seen in at least 35 years, according to new federal data. Last year, more than 30,700 Americans died from alcohol-induced causes, including alcohol poisoning and cirrhosis, which is primarily caused by alcohol use."

Typical strawman arguement.

And btw, under the original assault weapons ban of 1994, any semiauto version of a military automatic weapon is an assault weapon.

If it takes a magazine and has two or more of the following:

A pistol grip

A flash suppressor or a threaded barrel to accept one

A folding or telescoping stock

It`s an assault weapon.

Exactly whats wrong here. If a grip, flash suppressor and foldable stock are considered too dangerous, whats next?

So let me get this straight. It`s cool to trash legal gun owners, christians, the NRA, and Republicans, and blame Orlando on them, but they`re gonna go ahead and cut out the portions of the transcripts where he literally states his cause and why he`s doing it because it`s islamic terrorism. Unreal

People who think that "no civilian needs an `Assault Rifle` to defend himself" must live somewhere populated by amateur-hour criminals. What...I`m supposed to wait until I`ve been victimized and then call for help from "professionals" who aren`t any better skilled/trained than I am ( and probably not as well) so *they* can show up with *their* Assault Rifles?!? (I sold my last AR to a local LEO, great guy but I sincerely doubt he can run it as well under extreme stress as I can.)
I guess I am one of those peoples ;)

I honestly feel safer without a gun then with a gun .I carry pepper spray and a personal alarm in the evenings but not in the day time .I feel very safe in the day time where I live.

I dont want to kill anyone even if they are trying to kill me. I would rather be killed then have to live with the fact I took someone out.

The beautiful thing about this country (for now) is that even though I don`t understand that line of thinking at all, you`re free to live how you want to and I`m free to live how I choose even though we`re at complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, sounds about right

Its not me I`m worried about, its my brother and all my loved ones.. what about them. Do they deserve to die? What`s wrong with being prepared? A gun is a tool just like anything else. One could make the argument we should ban all cars, they are just as dangerous if not more dangerous. A tool is a tool, use it for correct intended purpose and they`re won`t be an issue. A mass population should not have to suffer because a minute fraction abuse/misuse that particular tool.

Lastly, if people spent half as much time focusing on the REAL ISSUE of MENTAL HEALTH we would`t have HALF these problems. State funding towards fighting/banning weapons has gone up and yet the state funding for mental health disorders is atrocious.

Not for anything but if you live in a urban area it`s not so bad. If you have ever been down south especially to a border town where help can be 15-20 minutes away on hundreds of acres you definitely would`t have that mind set. Personal alarms only work if people hear them. Funny part is there is also the reverse in mass populated areas known as the "Genovese syndrome".

Full-automatic weapons/ short-barreled rifles and shotguns/sound suppressors have been tightly regulated at the Federal level for eighty-odd years.

All those things are downright COMMON among the few criminals who want them (e.g., Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs). And people who pass background checks and pay the Transfer Fee can buy them legally; they`re more common than one might think but it`s not a problem.

During the Assault Weapon Ban the only people who were really impacted were law-abiding folks of limited resources. Criminals an always get anything. I was able to buy "banned" guns legally with no problem, they just cost a bit more.

And AFAIK, none of the stats indicate that the Ban had any impact on violent crime whatsoever.

There`s a greater chance of winning the Lottery repeatedly than there is of being shot with one of those things, why do people fret about it? Americans are infinitely more likely to be killed by somebody who can`t handle their automobile, so how about limiting all Personal Vehicles to some VERY low level of performance and thus save more lives than any Gun Ban ever could. How about just banning Private Vehicles that can exceed 50mph? Think "nobody needs an AR15"? Well, " nobody needs to drive fast" either. Check the stats- if somebody wants to save lives through Government Intervention, the Killer Problem in this country is the private ownership of vehicles that are used on Public Roads (from Amish buggies to Semis). Ownership of which isn`t mentioned in the Bill of Rights.

This goes right along with my previous post about bringing back prohibition. If we are in the business of saving lives, it doesn`t make a whole lot of sense to fight for banning something that would potentially make next to no difference in the grand scheme of things

especially when these morons haven`t had a budget passed in a year and the most recent one they tried to propose was 7 billion over funding

I dont have a problem with you being prepared as long as you are responsible with a gun ,well trained and are emotionally stable.

What I feel is right for myself does not reflect what I think others should do.

Yes I live with very close neighbors and a fairly decent neighborhood where we for the most part know each other and watch out for each other. That does make a big difference in how safe I feel but if I lived way out in the boonies I would have a couple big dogs to alert me of trouble or maybe purchase a stun gun but still would not own a gun/rifle.

I grew up in the country and it is a bit spooky at night! A personal alarm may not work but pepper spray works no matter where you live!

I agree mental health is at the root of the problem!

This is just so magnificent. Cliff`s notes:

Moron reporter tries to do a piece on how easy it is to buy a gun by buying an AR-15

Bring back Prohibition?

IMO Prohibition *RUINED* this country, and also resulted in countless deaths and even *more* wrecked lives.

Making stuff illegal doesn`t work- e.g., Heroin.

..if I lived way out in the boonies I would have a couple big dogs to alert me of trouble..

We`re not really "in the boonies" but, but I`ve always had (serious, trained, and yeah...big) dogs. They aren`t just "intruder alarms", they`re also the first active line of defense; they`ll take a lot of killing. We love the dogs like we would children, but that`s the harsh fact of the matter.

The good news is that since the dogs are self-evident, they add to the "this is a Hard Target" message. Bad Guys have much Softer Targets to choose amongst.

I honestly feel safer without a gun then with a gun ...[but I would].. maybe purchase a stun gun but still would not own a gun/rifle...

I actually think your decision to *not* own a firearm is probably a wise one and that you quite possibly *are* safer without one.

It takes a lot of work to be proficient with them and too many people treat them like some sort of Magic Talisman, as if just having one around is beneficial, only to find that it doesn`t work that way when [it hits the fan]. If a gun`s not there, it can`t fall into the wrong hands, if you`re not relying on the gun, hopefully you`re relying on some other plan, one you can actually (successfully) implement.

A personal alarm may not work but pepper spray works no matter where you live!

But for your residence, get the "fire extinguisher"-type made to discourage bears, not the little ones like you can carry around in your purse. Get at least one extra one and *practice* with it, preferably under Adrenal Stress. EVERYTHING is hard to do when you`re in fear for your life, *EVERYTHING*.

But note, a whole lotta people have watched even high% Pepper Spray have zero functional effect on certain individuals. As always, it pays to have a Plan B.

Stun Guns for the home need to be ones that will work from a distance (e.g., Taser) rather from direct contact as you don`t want a Bad Guy getting that close.

Right. There was essentially 2 points to my statement.

1) Alcohol is of no practical use to anybody and claims magnitudes more lives than AR-15`s, so it`s pretty dumb to so ferociously try to ban one thing that claims very few lives while being just A OK with the other being legal

2) We see how well prohibition worked out.....

House of Wax- I figured that was where you were coming from, just couldn`t resist as I feel *VERY* strongly about the damage wrought by Prohibition; it`s one of my Hot-Button Issues.

These days people tell cute stories about Grampa Luigi making elderberry wine or Great-Aunt Gertrude the flapper drinking bathtub gin, but many aspects of it were Dead Serious at the time and US society will never recover from the whole thing.

Somebody`s probably thinking "but liquor isn`t made to kill folks and ARs are" but that somebody has probably already made up/closed their mind on the subject.

Boardwalk Empire shed some light on that whole thing, a little more dramatic obviously.
