More to the story, than just a video........

I don't know why anyone would even consider being a cop anymore. I can't help but wonder if there will be a drop in applications to academies and open positions going forward.

How would you want it handled if it was your child.

Actually that's right on the edge of what I'd expect to have happen to my child for the lack of respect shown. I of course would not like it but I don't think it's the officer that I'd be upset with.

Here are a couple of things that might have been done. The officer could have gotten other teachers involved and a group of them could have taken her - desk and all - anywhere they wanted.

You don't want the teachers involved. When a school has gone so far as to have installed resource officers, this becomes their job. Putting a teacher in a potentially violent situation is what I beleve they are trying to avoid.

Do you think the girl's race has anything to do with the willingness of people to side with the officer?

I for one never considered that a factor. I was a little set back that this person was female.

Agreed. And what......we're going to start disrupting other classes as well so we can get a gang of teachers to deal with 1 unruly student? gimme a break

There is a longer video. The media cuts off the beginning where he is asking her to stand up and she begins to hit him in the chest.

But that doesn't fit the narrative the media is going for, so....

Well her rights are so much more important than anyone else's.... She was having a bad day, so everybody needs to be more 'tolerant' of her situation and forego their day of education....

Again, the use of force is disproportional and the threat is being overstated. Let's see the mark on the officers chest from being punched by girl sitting down. The officer was reacting to her lack of respect for his authority if anything and over reacting.

Robert, I understand what you are saying I really do. But I would love to see what you would do in that situation. How would you of handled it any better?

If you guys don't stop quoting him, there is no reason to have him on my ignore list.....

Since what is seen, can't be unseen.... My answer to this is.

Um, yeah, he can ascertain his judgement of the whole situation from a 30 second clip... So I guess there really is no reason for our judicial system as it stands. He can be judge, jury all in one.

Responding to someone who you're ignoring just means you can do it without having to engage in a dialogue, not having to account for what you write. You can draw your own conclusions about what that says about character.

Aw man, somebody's are gonna get a trip to camp unless somebody steps away from the keyboard...and taking my own advice:

Neither party was blameless in that classroom. As is usually the case when [stuff] escalates ;)

That is the biggest problem in our country today, no one is ever responsible for their own actions. Clearly if she would have followed the rules and not caused a seen none of this would have happened. It is that simple. Everyone is blind to the big picture anymore, and a lot of it is due to how the media skews things. I rarely watch the news anymore as 90% of it is total crap. When was the last time you actually saw something positive on the news.

I do agree he may have been a bit excessive in how he handled it, but we also do not know what really happened.

Spot on. The way I see it, she had AT LEAST 3 opportunities to avoid what happened.

1) not cause a problem in the first place

2) respect the teacher when being disciplined

3) obey instruction from the SRO.

He didn't taze her, he didn't beat her. Aggressive? Yeah. But her actions leave me with little sympathy
