Swirls!!

Hoping for a sunny day
I did this '98 Camry this morning. It belongs to my Mother who lives in rural VA. The front end is one big rock chip! Anyway, it has not been properly cared for and is covered in swirls. I used Menzerna intensive on it with an orange pad, but it had little impact. Actually, it's the second time I have used it and I'm not impressed at all. I think my Hi-Temp light cut does just as well. I don't have anything more aggressive (got my fingers crossed that the UPS man shows today with my order from Dwayne:p ).

I've asked before, but am I just out of luck trying to get the swirls out using my PC? I'll try SSR3 later this week. I don't own a rotorary and don't know how to use one properly anyway.

I did one pic attached, it looks like the same year and all. It had the same swrils I got them out but here is what I did. I uesd light cut 3M compound by hand to start but that was after the clay. Then with a PC and a cutting pad polished, SSR2 with a orange pad, then finished with PoorBoys polish with carunba with a finishing pad. It sounds like a bit of over kill but it came out looking like a new car.
 
Thanks, Beem. I recall you thought that you could've used SSR3. I have some 1, 2, and 3 all on the way. Today was a really nice day, so I thought I would give it a shot with what I had on hand. Almost a waste of time since I did not achieve the desired result. Looks like rain the rest of the week, though. Next chance I get I'm going to try again. :mad:

Wow, that Intensive Polish is supposed to be pretty good stuff. Let us know how you make out with the SSR's. I'm betting that you will have to go with at least the SSR2, probably the SSR3.

Alot of times with cars that have bad swrils I tend to beleive that a ligh cut compound will level the clear coat and the polih will set up the CC to get teh rest of teh swrils out. On all the darker colored cars that I do I follow this process. Its not failed me yet, of course the SSR3 might be close to a light cut compound.
Here is a pic of a black truck that I have posted before this car has never seen a garage...take my word for it, and I followed the same process
 
I need help with that also here is 00" Silverado hood with lots of swirls and small scratchs I did 2x DACP with CMA yellow cutting pad and makita rotary and 1x Pass with Menzerna IP with white pad and AIO followed by S100 It made them less visible but they are still there in the light. :(

Here is a before pic what compound shall I try next. ?

I think it has made a dramatic difference, at least picture wise....


It looks like someone stood on the side of the car with a rotary going back and forth in all sorts of dirctions....or is it just me:rolleyes:

I would use SSR2 before proceeding to SSR3.....those marks left over might be pretty deep and getting them may thin the clear and its protection. I know you are looking for perfection, but your mom will probably look at it now and say WOW....yes we fanatics have a higher standard, but you said she really doesn't take great care of it.....be gentle with it....

PB, I'll take your advice and try the SSR2 first. Those swirls are driving me nuts, though! Mom may say wow, but when I look at the car all I see is swirls.:rolleyes: I know they are there so I look for them. I know, it's a sickness, but everyone on this forum has it, so I must be normal. Right? RIGHT??!!

Fortunately it rained today, so I have had a bit more time to strategize my next attack. It's either me or the swirls....one of us has got to go!
 
you're too funny...your mom may pick the swirls...roflmao...no really they probably bother you more than her...but once you get started,....there's no turning back;)

Will be visiting some friends down in MD. this weekend ...real closr to Owings Mills....you around there?
 
Fr0zen, I would follow Beemerboy/Poorboy's lead and use a stronger SMR (not necessarily SSR2 if you need to do it now). Probably use a yellow pad or one of those orange pads (supposed to combine yellow cut and white polish). That is what I am going to do tomorrow morning. Beemerboy has his own process that he swears by (see above) and he just did a car similiar to mine. He used SSR2 as the more agressive SMR. Finish off with a light polish.

Note that I intend to use a PC vice a rotary as did Beemerboy.

Maybe someone could make a recommendation for a SMR similar in quality to SSR2 that you can purchase locally for your current detail.
