Zymol ?

Let me preface this before i ask the question by saying i don't want to know about products that cannot be found at the local AutoZone Pep Boys or Kragen.

I was thinking of trying Zymol wax because it's available everywhere, but it's fairly expensive and i'd rather not waste any more $ than i already have buying waxes that are no better than what i normally use. Right now i use mothers synwax and it's quite good and removes exceptionally easily. But i keep hearing people praise Zymol as the best easy to find product of it's kind, IE: not compared to the million high end online offerings. There are no car quests where i am, and only PB, AZ and Kragen are local, and i don't want to buy online. So again, i just want to know how it compares to what i use and other easy to find mass produced waxes.

So is Zymol going to be seriously better than Synwax ? Or will i just find it to be another good but not unusually good product.

The Zymol you find OTC is not the one people are raving about. The one people talk about often in here cost $100+ per jar. I've never used SynWax, but from the stores you mentioned I can vouch for Meguiar's NXT and Meguiars #26 (Hi tech yellow wax).

No, I'm talking about the $13-15 bottle which are what the reviews i read were about. They pretty much always mention the price. I haven't read the reviews here if there are any, but then i would assume it may be about that because people here are pro detailers and into high end products. So no, i'm referring to the Zymol found even at target stores.

You're talking about the blue Zymol in the bottle, right? I've used it before but it was a while ago. I don't think it was anything special though for a cleaner wax. Smelled pretty good though. From what I've read, that Synwax is supposed to be pretty good stuff. Maybe try the Mother's Reflections or Meg's #26, as mentioned above, if you're looking for something different.

Don’t know where you heard that, but it wasn’t around here. It’s not a popular product in these here parts. I don’t think I’ve heard anybody totally bag on it though. It’s certainly cheap enough, give it a try and you’ll know for yourself.

It’s a cleaner/wax. Personally, for an OTC cleaner/wax, I’d go with Meguiar’s ColorX.

Like kapinnn said, The Zymol you hear people raving about around here, the stuff that’s actually made by Zymol, is sold through specialty dealers.

The OTC Zymol is made by Turtle Wax. They pay Zymol royalties to use the name.

PC.

Yeah the blue stuff is a cleaner wax and there is nothing special about it. I woulnd't say it looked great but it looked decent. As for durability, I rarely leave LSPs on my car for more than a month anyway so I cannot comment on that.

We are a Zymol dealer in Canada. The stuff you find in your local store is their cleaner wax. It is made by turtle wax. It uses a slightly different recipe then the original made by Zymol. For most Autopian's it would not be anything mind blowing because their paint is in great shape. Where the product really makes a differance is on a car thats a few years old. There is a ton of oils in it that really bring back the colour. It also does a great job on oxidation. It is pretty durable but terrible to use. It is hard to remove off old paint and if you get it on trim it not easy to remove. If your paints in good shape don't bother with it. Although as an autopian it is great as a base if you top it of with something like P21s.

Thanks,

No kidding. I had an old bottle of that crap kicking around & I recently gave it to a neighbor of mine to try on an older motorhome. He put it on & let it dry & then could not get it off period. I finally had to bring over my Makita buffer to get that stuff off.......

As I've said many times before......

There is only one way you will know for sure whether an Authentic Zymol will perform over a competing wax.....(you fill in the rest!)!

ive used the light blue cleaner wax, it looked alright on our f350, smelled great. durability was good on the truck. i liked it then so i also used it on our suburban (gets driven much more) and the durability was terrible. so it looks alright if you dont mind re-applying often
