I`ve used them a lot for sanding scratches. They work great! To be honest, I would not sand chips. That could easily pull up even more paint. Once the paint is chipped you have to be very careful with your approach to it. Depending on the clearcoat and basecoat used, you could compound it and sand it and light it on fire and not pull any paint up, but more often than not you`d be surprised how easy it is to pull more paint up once it`s already chipped. Just be careful and use discretion when doing it!

Fishing- I`ve never used those, but have used the Meguiar`s blocks. For some jobs (especially on a flat panel) that kind of thing is sometimes just right.

Remember that the touchup paint will usually be a lot more fragile than the oe finish.

m54daboll- Part of why I sometimes abrade chips before touching up is to get any "barely adhering" paint off of there. I`ve hardly ever had that problem, but now and then I wanted to make sure nothing came loose after I`d touched it up and started the leveling so I went ahead and basically made things worse before I made them better.

I use the KXK R.I.D. stix and Palm Blocks. They are not designed for paint chips.

My go-to for road rash chips is Dr. Color Chip - (it`s not perfect but improved)

    Been thinking about this thread...

Noting that I hardly ever bother touching up chips any more...back when I did, I`d often hit the nastier ones (very, *very* caerfully!) with a rotary tool. Yeah, gotta be careful, and I always did it under magnification, but with a mild-grit burr/stone it`s a quick and easy way to do the initial prep.

I have used them for small area sanding on paint and for sanding tight areas on headlights. They work fantastic!
