To UK or Gloss-Coat that is the question?

So I am thinking about coating my car. I`ve pretty much got it down to these 2, obviously I know that UK is the more proven formula. I like what gloss coat is all about (besides maybe being a bit overpriced) as well. Let`s see what you guys think. This will be my first coating and I am also liking the fact that gloss-coat seems like it may be the easier of the 2 to apply.

The price will be about the same - with UK, you`ll need to use 4-5 applicator suedes for one car, and you`ll also need 3-4 suede towels for removing the residue. All of these are single-use items that will need to be discarded since they get hard.

And with Gloss Coat the odds of getting your entire vehicle coated "nicely" (paint, wheels) with 10cc`s is probably a no go unless you are doing a Smart Car....how do I know...ordered GLOSS COAT directly from Optimum and used it. Very easy to put on, much easier than UK (which I also have), but they should send 15cc`s for the price.

I`ve tried both, unless you are willing to buy two applications of Gloss Coat I would go with UK. Better look in my opinion as well. And proven.

I recently picked up some opti-gloss, but I don`t like meager 10cc that is included. I still have doubts it will coat full size pickups or suvs completely. oc 2.0 always had enough to double coat whatever I was working on. I think if I had it to do over again, I would just get some Detailer`s Paint Coating or spend a little extra and get some Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating.

I would go with CQuartz..it`s a proven winner..I`ve applied it to over 20 vehicles and it looks amazing. I`ve never been one to jump the gun on new released products or machines...I always like to wait until I hear feedback from trusted sources and wait until any tweaks or adjustments need to be made for that product or tool.
Wish I had back half the money I spent on every new product that came out..I would up everything. ..Some were good ...but most were over hyped.

Re: To UK or Gloss-Coat that is the question?

UK is proven but does use a lot of applicators. Also very easy to mess up if you are not using enough towels (or the suede towels) to do the wipe off. I had a few panels where I was just smearing the product around lol

I personally would like to see CG on your car just so I can receive your feedback on the application and how well you can stretch 10cc. If you do go with CG, I suggest doing all the paint and head lights/ tail lights and reevaluate to see how much is left for the wheels.

Since I have used all the CarPro stuff I would lean toward CQ or CQUK. The gloss and depth of both are great CQUK being a little darker / wetter. I have only used OC Pro so I can`t comment on Gloss-Coat yet. I might grab some at some point just to try.

    Another vote for UK.

If it`s smearing around on removal, that`s usually a sign you didn`t work it in well enough while applying (I usually cross-hatch at least three times), or didn`t let it flash long enough.

I vote for Optimum - yeah I know...

Not sure how anyone could use a whole syringe of product on 1 vehicle including wheels, though... What kind of applicator were you using ? Bet you could wring out a lot of product when you were done...

This is what happens if you didnt go through the Zaino School of Sealant Application.. Thin coats, thin coats, thin coats...

I could coat an entire vehicle with Zaino using 1/2-3/4 of an ounce, 3 coats..

I really like that at 3 years since my Optimum Opti-Guard application, I have beautiful clear, black paint, and no problems anywhere on it..

I really like that none of my microfiber towels I used to level off the Optimum turned hard and had to be thrown away..
