What is your favorite wax?

No matter how much reading I do I learn something new each day. I did not know (even though I recently purchased a bottle and obviously didn`t read the front label) that M21 removes light swirls. Quoting from the front label;

"Produces a deep gloss and highly reflective paint finish;
Visually eliminates fine swirls for a show car perfect shine;
Glides on easily with a quick and easy wipe off"

Doesn`t say anything about cleaners and seems to me it must fill fine swirls to make the visually eliminated? So I thought.

Anyway, here`s a test panel that I`ve previously wet sanded, buffed, polished and applied M21 and Gold wax. I wiped several times with 50/50 IPA to remove these products.

First application by hand, Collinite 476s on the far left; Meguiar`s Gold paste wax in the center and Zaino ZFX+Z5 polish on the far right.

Pictures don`t tell much to me. This 5mp camera is not that great under relatively low light conditions. Collinite was a bear to remove by hand, but I might have used a little too much. Up close the Collinite looks like it doesn`t have as much gloss or depth. The Gold and Zaino both look pretty good after removal by hand. I did notice that this freshly wet sanded and polished panel already has a big scuff mark and some light swirls from me wiping too hard to clean before this test!

So I did another test after using 50/50 IPA. Applied M21 over the entire area with my DA and a Lake Country 6" black pad on speed 6 with very little product. Let dry for 20 minutes and removed with DA and micro-fiber bonnet on speed 4. Very nice! Scuff mark and swirls gone too.

Then I applied Gold paste wax on the left by hand and removed with DA and bonnet and M21 only on the right.

Then the same Gold paste wax already applied on the left and Collinite on the right applied by hand and removed with a bonnet on DA.

Horizontal piece of tape removed where below was the previous 3 products only. (Collinte left, Gold center, Zaino right.)

What have I learned? That M21 will remove scuffs and fine swirls with a black pad on a DA. That M21 goes on with blue pad and comes off very easy without smears using a bonnet on a DA. That OTC Gold wax looks pretty darn nice and is much cheaper than ZFX+Z5 and other higher price waxes I haven`t tried yet. (for whatever that`s worth) And Collinite comes off nice with bonnet on DA and to me looks as good as anything else I have at the moment.

Perhaps I`ve rubbed and polished and waxed this panel so much anything will look like wet paint? I don`t know. Maybe someone can tell me why I should invest in an expensive wax when these three look so good? Why should I use a wax at all on top of M21? (I need a beer now!)

Well, I hope I didn`t tick anybody off with my seemingly arrogant rant about waxes. I am pretty much a newbie to this end of car care. I`ve done body work, painting and some detailing in the past and I just wanted to see if someone would chime in to tell me "here`s why you need a good wax, because..."

I know some expensive waxes must offer something over what I have tried. I also know that the result I got on this Chrysler Red Inferno Pearl Tri-coat paint is just one example and that there are about as many different paints/situations as there are companies selling waxes. But, like Mike`s signature on Meguiar`s Online, "if it works for you, then..."

You didn`t tick me off. I figured I did ticked someone off though. It`s all good. I am really jealous of that bright red paint. Wow, you almost need a wax that would quiet that paint. LOL. As for the higher priced waxes being better....well, I`m not convinced. Some that cost $20 last longer than those at $100 or much more. Which begs the question of which is better, shine, longevity, protection? Who really knows? After all is said and done here, M21 (or NXT) is definitely on my list of products to try next.

Thanks biolink! that paint is really shining since I wet sanded and buffed it. ONce I do the entire vehicle it should look awesome.

You won`t be disappointed in M21. It really add a deep, wet gloss and if you use it thin it come off very easy. a quarter size amount will cover an entire door center section (approx 2x3.5`) A vehicle I used it on two weeks ago is still repelling dust and dirt, has been rained on and still looks nice even after the owner hasn`t touched it since she says. I would think there would be some water spots, but haven`t had a chance to go by and look. Probably do that tomorrow on my way to Classic Motoring for some Menzerna 106ff to see how it`s holding up.

Edit: Oh, and my favorite wax... I`m gonna cop out here: I love em all. I am a `nuba junky. I do enjoy sealants, too. Guess I`m just an LSP junky. Just about all of them have their uses.

I`m with you on this, Supes. So far, my favorite LSP is whichever one I have applied last. I`m sure this won`t continue and that eventually some definite favorites will emerge, but at the moment I`m enjoying all the ones I have tried so far.

Current favorite: Wolfgang Fuzion. 2nd place: Harly Wax.

Collinite 845/915/476S, Pinnacle Souveran paste, Wolfgang Fuzion, Dodo Juice SuperNatural, RubbishBoys Original Edition...those are waxes.
I still haven`t tried BlackFire Midnight Sun...getting some of that in a trade though...

Over the weekend I used Prima Amigo topped with Blackfire batch 23. Ya I know

batch 24 is better, but the results and the comments I received are previously unmatched on my white Jetta. :thumbup:

It depends on the car`s age and color. for older or show cars I use a natural wax - P21S or Blackfire along with Mothers glaze.
For utility trucks I use a longer lasting synthetic wax. Of late I`ve been applying Menzerna mixed with polycharge. I`ll wipe the synthetic wax off using Blackfire quick wash and wipe.

Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant is simply amazing. Very easy to apply(follow directions) the results are as advertised. I have applied two more coats and the shine keeps getting deeper. I`m going to order the Midnight Sun wax to get the Wet Ice over fire that everyone has said is the only way to go.
