Can UV light cure Optimum Gloss Coat quicker?

    Hey all

Me and a buddy are going to polish up my Volvo again this Saturday and I plan to coat her with Glosscoat, it worked really well with my paint color before. However I am going to a car meet that same evening at 6pm and I want to make sure dust/road grime won`t affect the coating if its only an hour or two old.

I have a UV curing light I can borrow from work if that will help cure faster? I can also try hitting it with a heat gun if the sun isn`t out.

I was planning on layering a coat of Reload ontop of the Glosscoat to help protect it, or must I let the Glosscoat cure before layering?

I`m sure some of you might say "well if you`re not sure it`s gonna be fine then don`t go to the car meet" but I`m a sponsor, I gotta go; my only break will be if it`s raining but it shouldn`t.

    Thanks

I think you need short wave IR lamp to cure a coating. Could be wrong but I seem to recall someone asking almost this same question and one of the resident experts said traditional heat gun and such won’t work.

And either way, don’t put anything but ONR on the gloss coat for the first 7 days after applying.

Yeah it is short wave we use it to cure glues and such.

What’s ONR? Sorry but I’m not here as often as the Volvo forums

Optimum no rinse wash soap. Formulated to play friendly with their coatings.

Wait an hour after the gloss coat is applied and then top with Optimum Opti-Seal. Optimum recommends this and it works great from my personal experience.

I believe the way this product works is let it DRY for at least 1 hour, let it continue to DRY and CURE for the next 7 days.
That is why they dont want you washing it with soap for 7 days - except for Optimum No Rinse (ONR)..
One of the longest Dealers of Optimum Coatings, said that you can spray it with Opti-Seal and that will help give a little protection to the Gloss Coat after the 1 hour minimum..
I would never put another brand of product on a just coated vehicle...
    Good luck with this !

Gloss Coat is humidity cured based on what has been said on the optimum synergy podcast. So no need for an IR lamp.

It is also recommended to top with opti-seal 1 hour after gloss coat to protect it during the 7 day curing window. No washes until that time. I would not use reload and stick with the optimum synergy.

What Dan and Mike said above - works well and allows the vehicle to be driven within hours of coating

Thanks everyone, ordered a bottle of opti seal and some of their waterless wash.

Here’s a pic of her, I just finished manual swapping her last week, will get paint back to perfection this weekend
