I thought this initially too. What made me think it is the similarity between the application instructions for the CG coating and the instructions for the 22ple coating. Here are excerpts from each copied from the CG website and DI`s website.
22ple:
- Ensure the surface is cleaned & polished.
- Remove all oil/polishes on the surface by doing an IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) wipe down. Use a mixture of 50% Isopropyl Alcohol with 50% distilled water.
- Please make sure the surfaces are cool and TOTALLY dry before applying the glass coat.
- Cure time - Do not wash your car or expose the car to open weather element, rain, snow etc for around 8-12 hours.
- After this initial curing time, the car can be washed or driven per normal.
CG carbon:
- Completely clean surface.
- Polish away any swirls, scratches, or other defects to satisfaction.
- Surface must be totally dry and cool to the touch. DO NOT apply in direct sunlight.
- Allow coating to dry and bond to the surface for 15-20 minutes.
- After initial cure time, vehicle can be washed and driven regularly.
- DO NOT wash or expose the vehicle to rain, snow, or moisture for 8-12 hours.
- After initial cure time, vehicle can be washed and driven regularly.
The above are abbreviated, I didn`t include all instruction steps. The wording of the above is very similar, which made me think the instructions came direct from the manufacturer and were used on each website. What is different however, is the 22ple instructions say to do an IPA wipedown after polishing and the CG instructions do not. Also, the CG instructions say to let coating bond for 15-20 minutes before wiping off excess. The cure time is more consistent with the products being different though. Maybe someone nicked the text from the DI website?
The lack of any instruction with the CG product to do an IPA wipedown or other cleaning of polishing oils after polishing is interesting. Is this product intended to be applied immediately after polishing? I would want to do an IPA wipedown after polishing to ensure proper bonding of the coating regardless.
At $149 I wouldn`t purchase CG carbon as a consumer. Its 2.5x the cost of OPT gloss coat, 1.5x the cost of Geyeon Mohs and double the price of the base 22ple coating and Kamikaze Myabi coating. I`m interested to see reviews of this product when people start using it. Regardless of the overhype website text, I`d like to know what makes it 2.5 times as good as gloss coat or 1.5 or 2 times as good as Geyon, 22ple or Kamikaze.
It says on their website that you should be able to apply one bottle to 3-6 vehicles.
Doesn`t everything they have give optical clarity?

Only way we will know is when someone tries it...and at $130 it won`t be me.
They haven`t changed much.
