How do you prove you have stripped the LSP?

There are some soaps (several CG soaps that mention it specifically) say they strip LSP`s. What test is the proof given that products can leave a surface beading or sheeting? When I notice an LSP degrading I see neither sheeting or beading but is that proof for a stripping soaps.

Well, I think you already know the answer to your own question... As I know your pretty bright.

You don`t know. That`s my vote. So, it seems a solvent or polishing with some abrasives or a pure polish with some solvents is likely your best guarantee. Some healthy polished paint will still bead somewhat with no LSP on it at all - so who knows for sure?

Have either of you tried removing a LSP(non coating) with DP Prep Polish or Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing Polish?

There`s also Griots Paint Prep. Supposedly will remove waxes and sealants, but I haven`t seen anyone report on it`s effectiveness. I have a bottle I`m going to eventually try and then wipe down with IPA to see if it`s effective. It does seem a little different in that you use it full strength out of the bottle.

I can just relate my experience with CG CITRIUS WASH (RED). I was looking this spring for a product that would strip any lsp i had left on after winter. So i could do my 2-step of amigo and hydro max. To my surprise, this product i felt worked! It left the paint squeaky clean, and i felt stripped it of any waxes or sealants. JMO. Give it a look.....

The question is how do you prove it.

My take is that you can`t prove it, or at least not without access to technology not typically found in homes, garages or auto shops.
With mechanical abrasion or strong solvents like body shop silicone and grease removers/surface prep I tend to take it on faith that the LSP is gone (maybe two passes and a few towel changes with the panel prep). I wouldn`t trust car shampoos no matter what the marketing hype says, isopropyl alcohol, dish soap, etc. nor would I trust lack of beading or sheeting or "doesn`t feel slick."
I`d like to believe that Gtechniq Panel Wipe or Duragloss Squeaky Clean really gets it done but I`d like to see some evidence.

The question is how do you prove it.

The problem with most of these products is they leave a surfactant behind that makes it look like the LSP is gone, but if you give the surface a wipe with IPA many times the beading will return as the IPA removes the surfactant.

Al, wet sanding is a sure fire way, but I guess you already knew that.

You cannot prove it, but you can look for evidence that it has occurred.

I need to polish the surface to be sure the past lsp it gone. Unless it is a wax then a good citrus foam and wash it enough for me.

Todays coatings and long lasting sealants are more durable and I find a polishing step is necessary.

I dont think you can really prove it, I think what you have to hope for is best case scenario is you made at least a dent in your LSP, so that way theres something for your new LSP to adhere to.

The only real way I know I removed my LSP`s is be using m205 or a paint cleaner and lightly polish!
